On the Blogroll: Mommy Man: Adventures of a Gay Superdad

The NYMetroParents blogroll features the best blogs in the parenting world, from New York and beyond. Here's a closer look at why we love these mom bloggers and dad bloggers and how they're shaping the web for parenting today.

Blogging from: New Rochelle, New York

If you have questions about raising a pair of energetic twins, or what parenthood is like with two dads, “Gay Superdad” Jerry Mahoney would love to help you. This stay-at-home dad by day and writer during nap times from New Rochelle, NY, chronicles the day-to-day doings of his “Modern Family” on the blog Mommy Man and familyMommy Man: Adventures of a Gay Superdad. On his blog, Mahoney uses wit and a liberal helping of snark to defend the reputation of the minivan, advise potential babysitters on interviewing do’s and don’ts, as well as to cover topics ranging from gestational surrogacy to “dadscrimination.” Posts are also littered with hilarious and sometimes biting anecdotes from his personal life, including stories about his partner, Drew, and their two adorable children Sutton and Bennett. Cuteness alert: pictures are included.

An avid writer, Mahoney has several other projects, including a book released in Spring 2014 entitled Mommy Man: How I Went From Mild-Mannered Geek to Gay Superdad. Mahoney has received favorable reviews from all over the country, including a review Mahoney posted on his site by Tim Carvell, head writer at The Daily Show with John Stewart, who said, “It’d be impressive enough if Jerry Mahoney had just written a smart, sweet, touching book about building a family, but somehow he’s also written one that’s hilariously funny.”

Humor is the standard for Mommy Man, while being helpful, informative and more than a little sassy at the same time. Mahoney encourages his readers to bombard him with their tweets, comments, and questions. He promises to try and respond to each one—even the mean ones. For this “Mommy Man,” parenthood is his lifestyle and he’s committed. –  Lizzie Jenkins
