Star Kidz, an after-school performing arts program, is opening a new location in the fall in Mount Kisco. Online registration for the fall session is now open.

The pre-K class runs for 50 minutes, while the kindergarten-first grade and second-third grade classes run for one hour once a week. These three classes combine singing, acting, and dancing. The class is split into two groups – one group practices singing with teachers and the other practices acting. Acting genres range from improv to drama to reciting lines from an original play written by Star Kidz faculty. The groups then switch and come together at the end of class to practice group dance and song.

“We work individually with each child and work with what the child needs, whether it’s a skill or building confidence,” says Alyson Isbrandtsen, co-owner. “We want the kids to have a sense of pride in themselves and build self-esteem through Star Kidz.”

Students put on a performance at the end of the session, which includes singing a solo by each child, reciting lines from the play individually, and ending with a group song and dance. The performance theme changes each year and instructors develop the group song and acting based on the theme, while co-owner Suzanne Spano choreographs all the dances. Past themes at other locations include Annie, Willy Wonka, and old-fashioned movie set.
