The New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute
offers psychotherapy evaluation and resources for kids, teens, and adults. Each month, the center hosts lectures and discussions to teach the public about topics relating to psychological development and  behavior.

On March 11, Wendy Olesker, Ph.D., will host her first lecture of 2015 as part of the Dialogues On series called Taming of The Crew: Understanding and Coping with Childhood Aggression in the Context of Home and Family II. This talk will address how children’s aggression increases as they get older and how parents can facilitate a healthy way for children to deal with these feelings. Olesker started this lecture topic last May for families to understand why their children behave aggressively. Because it was well-received, she wanted to expand the discussion and continue it this year.

NYPSI offers psychotherapy sessions for children and adolescents. During the consultation process, they meet with a treatment staff member who assesses what is needed to help the child. Some issues that need attention include self-harm, refusing to eat, and not getting along at school.

Maxine Gann, Ph.D., director of public information and relations at NYPSI, says that any problem that seems to keep a child from moving on to the next stage of development should be looked into. “The parents are usually aware of the problem, but they might not be aware that help is available,” Dr. Gann says.

Anyone interested in psychological help for their child or teen can fill out an application, available on the NYPSI website, and set up an appointment. The application fee is $40. To RSVP to a lecture, visit the NYPSI website.
