Come Out & Play Festival Announces 2016 Dates

Come Out & Play Festival returns to New York City this year with After Dark and Family and Field day events.

Come Out & Play, a free annual festival of street games that turns areas of New York City into giant playgrounds, will be back for its fifth anniversary of Family Day on Governors Island. Thousands of New Yorkers of all ages will have the opportunity to play original, live-action games in the streets of DUMBO, Brooklyn, and in the fields of Governors Island.

The festival begins Friday, July 8 with Come Out & Play After Dark in DUMBO, which will transform the Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza and surrounding neighborhood into a giant arcade. It continues Saturday, July 9 with Come Out & Play Family Day and Come Out & Play Field Day, both held at the Governors Island Parade Ground Field. Field Day features games, sports, and social games for older kids and adults, while Family Day features games specifically for families, all of which will connect with a storyline about Time Travel.

ESI Design is returning for the seventh year as a lead partner in the festival. The New York City-based experience design firm will create all of the family-friendly games for the Come Out & Play Family Day.

The complete Come Out & Play 2016 schedule is as follows:

Come Out & Play After Dark
Friday, July 8, 7-10:30pm
DUMBO, Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza (across from 155 Water St.)
The 2016 festival kicks off with Come Out & Play After Dark, an evening of night games. After Dark transforms the Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza and surrounding neighborhood into a giant arcade through a mixture of social party games, large physical video games, and wild new street games.

Come Out & Play Field Day
Saturday, July 9, 10am-5pm
Governors Island, Parade Ground Field
Come Out & Play will take over the Governors Island Parade Grounds for a day full of original Field Games, showcasing new games, sports, and social games for adults and older kids. Some games make use of new technology such as smartphones, and some rely on old-fashioned tech such as rubber balls.

Come Out & Play Family Day
Saturday, July 9, 11am-4pm
Governors Island, Parade Ground Field
Come Out & Play Family Day offers games designed specifically for families and children of all ages, brought to the festival by ESI Design. All of the games will connect together with a fun storyline about Time Travel—complete with an official Time Travel Agency, games throughout time, postcards to the future, and imminent threats to the space-time continuum.
