If your child has special needs, an overnight respite program can provide some much needed relief and give you time to de-stress and focus on your own needs. It's also a good idea to get your child used to staying overnight in a place other than home, in case an emergency should ever arise.

Here, we've put together a list of places that offer overnight respite for children in the NYC area, including Long Island and Westchester, Rockland, and Fairfield counties.


New York City Respite Programs

Serving Multiple Boroughs

AHRC of New York City Free-Standing Respite
Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Staten Island, and Queens

Houses and apartments are located in all five New York City boroughs, offering overnight respite for individuals with developmental disabilities ages 4 years and older, of any functional level. Services provided by fully trained staff can be arranged for up to two consecutive weeks.


HeartShare Overnight Respite Programs
Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens

HeartShare offers a few overnight respite programs. Serving People with Autism Overnight Respite is located in Staten Island. It is open year-round to children with autism  and other intellectual and developmental disabilities ages 7 and older. Home Away from Home is an overnight respite program provided by host families for individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities. A Holiday Overnight Respite program is offered in Brooklyn.

QSAC Overnight Respite Program
New York City and Long Island

Quality Services for the Autism Community’s overnight respite programs typically take place at a recreational facility such as a dude ranch, but services can be arranged in another location convenient to the family. The program is available to all individuals with autism or a pervasive developmental disorder.



UCP of NYC Overnight Respite Program
1770 Stillwell Ave., Bronx

Overnight respite is available seven days a week at the Hausman Campus in the Pelham Gardens neighborhood of the Bronx for any child or adult who is a New York City resident, is physically disabled and/or developmentally disabled, and meets the New York State Office of Persons With Developmental Disabilities and Family Support Services guidelines. Guests may stay at the residence for up to 14 days at a time, a maximum of 30 days per year.



HASC Center Lev Tova Children's Respite Home
2018 Avenue J

Overnight respite services are offered seven days a week for children with special needs. Lev Tova accepts female guests ages 2-18 and male guests ages 2-8.


JBFCS Mishkon Respite Program
1358 56th St.

Overnight respite services are provided for people with developmental disabilities younger than 21 years old.



YAI Overnight Respite Program
Vanessa White Germany at 212-255-2673

The YAI Network offers 24-hour professional and caring supervision from Friday afternoon until Monday morning for people ages 5 years and older in a lovely Chelsea townhouse. Guests must be ambulatory.

Long Island Respite Programs

East End Disability Associates Inc Overnight Respite Program
107 Roanoke Ave., Riverhead

Overnight respite can be scheduled for children with disabilities ages 8 and older who live with their family in Suffolk or Nassau counties.


Family Residences and Essential Enterprises Inc Free-Standing Respite Services
Nassau County

The program provides services for developmentally disabled individuals living with their families, including overnight visits of up to 30 consecutive days.


Independent Group Home Living Program Inc Respite Houses

Children with developmental disabilities can be guests at one of IGHL's Respite Houses for a stay of 24 hours to two weeks.

The Lower Fairfield Respite Center offers overnight stays for people with disabilities.


Monmouth County, New Jersey

Camp Oakhurst

A full program of camp-like accommodations and recreational activities is offered for children with a physical or developmental disability who live in New York or New Jersey. Three- to seven-day sessions are available throughout the year.


Rockland County, New York

ARC of Rockland Respite Services

ARC of Rockland offers overnight respite services for children with disabilities ages 3-16 in the Children’s Respite Home.


Saint Dominic's Home Service Coordination

Respite services are available for people with developmental disabilities.


Yedei Chesed Grandview Respite Program

Respite services are available for children ages birth to 12 with OPWDD eligibility.


Westchester County, New York

ARC of Westchester Respite House
Thornwood, NY

Arc’s freestanding Respite House is in operation seven days a week, and long-term stays for children with disabilities are available should the need arise.


Family Services of Westchester Respite Services

Respite services are available for for children ages 5-17 diagnosed with or believed to be at risk of being diagnosed with Serious Emotional Disturbance.


Richmond Community Services Respite Care
Mount Kisco, NY

Richmond provides short-term care for individuals with developmental disabilities who live at home with their families.


The Children's Aid Society Wagon Road Camp
431 Quaker Road, Chappaqua

This summer camp-style respite program is offered on school holidays and weekends for children ages 7-17 with developmental delays or disabilities who live in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Westchester County.
