TEACH Consulting—Teaching Education Advocacy for Children with Higher needs—an educational advocacy and tutoring center, now offers its tutoring programs during the summer months. The center serves as a resource for parents and children in Nassau and Suffolk, and offers summer tutoring for preschool through college students. Owner Eileen Tyznar says she only hires teachers that are dual-certified in general education and special education. The center also provides advocacy services, and is dedicated to enhancing the academic experience for children with special needs. The teachers at TEACH Consulting are New York state-certified.

The center has four tutoring rooms, and each student is tutored individually. Tutoring services include math, reading, writing, and college-prep work. Children with special needs can also find academic support through TEACH Consulting—The Wilson Reading Program works on reading comprehension through multi-sensory tactics.

Students are typically tutored between 30 minutes and one hour—parents can request longer sessions if needed. An informal assessment evaluates the child before the tutoring program begins, and the evaluative report will assess the child’s progress after their sessions are completed. Parents are encouraged to bring these evaluations to their child’s teachers.
