The inimitable Mama Doni will cook up a musical storm with a family show and book signing celebrating the release of Mama Doni's new book, "Get Cooking! A Jewish American Family Cookbook & Rockin' Mama Doni Celebration" (Behrman House Publishing, $19.95). The centerpiece of the festivities will be an acoustic Mama Doni concert featuring an array of songs from the 29-track Mama Doni CD that's included with the book. Kids and families should come prepared for some aerobic challenges as they “Synagoguersize,” boogie to the Hamantaschen Dance for Purim, and of course join the famous “Challah Day” conga line. Hip young kids and their even hipper parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles are all encouraged to get up and dance at this spirited Jewish rock concert.

The Yonkers Philharmonic's second concert of the Gala 50th Anniversary Season. The program features Andy Lin playing Hoffmeister's Viola Concerto, Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cave Overture, Brahms Second Symphony, and Engraft composed by Jeeyoung Kim, a concerto for Erhu and strings. The Erhu is a two-stringed, bowed, traditional Chinese instrument. Through the Erhu, composer Jeeyoung Kim expresses the deep and mixed emotions of her Asian roots. The Erhu gives off a timbre almost comparable to a human's, and is as exciting to watch being played as it is unusual in sound. Maestro James Sadewhite will give a brief pre-concert lecture in the Saunders High School auditorium at 2:15 pm. Based on a story ripped straight from The Weekly World News tabloid, "Bat Boy: The Musical" is a faux-horror musical comedy about a half boy/half bat creature who is rescued from a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia, and taken in by the empathetic wife of the local veterinarian. "Edgar," as he's named, quickly learns to speak and act in civilized ways as a "normal" boy - even falling in love for the first time. Danger looms, however, when a murderous rampage sweeps Hope Falls, the town learns of a deep, dark secret, and the shocking story of Bat Boy's unholy origin is revealed. This off-kilter satire, which will reunite the director and choreographer behind the Westchester premiere of "Reefer Madness!", offers clever send-ups to other celebrated musicals, a hilarious book, surprising twists and turns of plot, and a lesson in the agony of being different and accepting your inner beast. 'The Velveteen Rabbit' - DR2 Theatre

With a little bit of nursery magic, three actors and their simple props transform into a wise old rocking horse, a cavalcade of mechanical playthings, a kind-hearted fairy, and of course, a stuffed rabbit who is transformed by the love of a young boy.

'Fiddler on the Roof' - Westchester Broadway Theatre

Composer Jerry Bock and lyricist Sheldon Harnick teamed up with librettist Joseph Stein to create this timeless classic musical, magically woven with universal themes, music, dance, poignancy, and laughter. "Fiddler on the Roof" is based on "Tevye and His Daughters" and other tales by Sholem Aleichem that he wrote in Yiddish and published in 1894. Set in 1905, the musical takes place in Anatevka, a small Jewish village in Russia. The story revolves around the dairyman, Tevye, and his attempts to preserve his family's traditions in the face of a changing world. In this production, Tevye the dairyman is brought to life by Bill Nolte. His wife Golde will be played by Emily Zacharias. The daughters are Rachel Prather (Tzeitel), Sarah Rolleston (Hodel), Dana Glaus (Chava), and local children Gianna Florio and Julia Gold, who will alternate as Bielke, and Samantha Robins and Shannon Stout who will alternate as Shprintze. Terry Palasz is the meddling Matchmaker, Yente. The girls' suitors are Andrew Boza as Motel the tailor, Eric Johnson as the butcher, Lazar Wolfe, Joe Longthorne as the student revolutionary, Perchik, and Chris Giordano as Fyedka, the Russian Cossack. The cast also features Michael J. Farina as Mordcha the Innkeeper, Drew Martin as the Rabbi, Benjamin Dean as Mendel, Stephen Tewksbury as the constable, Lucas Thompson as Nachum, and Stephen Valenti as Avram. The production is directed and choreographed by Richard Stafford. Jesse Factor is the associate choreographer. The musical director is Leo P. Carusone, set design is by John Farrell, technical director is Steve Loftus, lighting design by Andrew Gmoser, sound design by Jonathan Hatton, costume design by Michael Bottari and Ronald Case, production stage manager is Victor Lukas and the assistant stage Mmnager is Ron Rogell. Properties are by Grumpy's Props. As with all our productions, Lisa Tiso is the associate producer.
