New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players Family Overture Series - City Center
January 19, 2013 - Midtown West

This season runs from Jan. 4-Jan. 20 and features three fully-staged productions including "The Mikado," "H.M.S. Pinafore," and "The Yeomen of the Guard." But along with the productions is the Family Overture Series, which is offered on three consecutive Saturdays and comes included with the price of your matinee ticket. Hosted by artistic director Albert Bergeret, the 45 minute sessions aim to immerse children in the worlds of the plays, and incorporate history, plot summary, and musical appreciation.

Erin Lee and the Up Past Bedtime Band at City Treehouse - City Treehouse

Erin Lee and the Up Past Bedtime Band are singing about winter. They'll be celebrating all the joys and challenges of the snowy season at City Treehouse. Get ready to sing along, sneeze along, have a snowball fight and do some seriously silly snowdancing with the award-winning kindie rock band. Award-winning City Treehouse is a play and learning center located in Chelsea. City Treehouse offers drop-in play in a nature-themed indoor play area that includes a two-story treehouse, fiber optic star cave, soft play studio and the largest indoor water play area in New York City. Reservations are recommended.

Led by award-winning guitarist Jeremy Zmuda, Jeremy Plays Guitar really speaks to kids while jumping, dancing, singing and, yes, playing guitar. When The Paper Bag Players cowboys and cowgirls gallop onto the stage in the all-new show, "The Paper Bag Players Saddles And Sunshine," singing and wishing you a great big "Howdy!," you'll be up on your feet clapping and singing along. "The Paper Bag Players Saddles And Sunshine" combines funny stories, charming characters, lively music, dancing, and lots of opportunities for the audience to be a part of the fun. Created especially for children 4 though 8 years old, there is enough fun in this show to entertain the entire family. And, Ted, Laura, Amy, Kevin, and John at the electric piano are all back to guarantee every moment is full of theatrical magic.

Parsons Dance Family Matinee - The Joyce Theater

Parsons Dance is an internationally renowned contemporary dance company under the artistic direction of dancer/choreographer David Parsons. Parsons Dance is committed to building new audiences for contemporary dance by creating American works of extraordinary artistry that are both engaging and uplifting to audiences throughout the world. Parsons Dance tours nationally and internationally, including an annual season in its home community of New York City. Parsons Dance includes eight full-time dancers and maintains a repertory of more than 80 works choreographed by David Parsons. The company will present a family matinee program that features kid-friendly Parsons Dance classics. "Dawn to Dusk" celebrates the diverse people and landscapes of Southern Florida. Set to the music of Grammy-Award winner Andrew Bird and Miami's legendary Tiempo Libre, Parsons Dance presents stunning choreography integrated with streaming high-definition footage of the dancers who also appear onstage. The backdrop fills the stage with powerful photographs by Clyde Butcher and footage captured by Blue Land Media of the dancers in four of Florida's most precious wildlife parks. Audiences will experience these locations, with their delicate ecology and unique challenges that have been preserved and protected for our use. From primitive to urban cultures and environments, David Parsons' newest work takes the audience on a journey from Dawn to Dusk. The program also includes David Parsons' 2005 Mozart-inspired work, "Wolfgang," ensemble classic, "In The End," with music by Dave Matthews Band, and David Parsons' stroboscopic masterwork, "Caught."

'The Velveteen Rabbit' - DR2 Theatre

Based on the book by Margery Williams and adapted for the stage by Kevin Del Aguila ("Click Clack Moo," "Altar Boyz"), this wonder-filled production is a testament to the power of a child's imagination. With a little bit of nursery magic, three actors and their simple props transform into a wise old rocking horse, a cavalcade of mechanical playthings, a kind-hearted fairy, and of course, a stuffed rabbit who is transformed by the love of a young boy.

All Aboard with Thomas & Friends - New York Botanical Garden

Join Thomas and Driver Sam on a fun-filled, sing-along, mini-performance adventure by helping Thomas find his way from Knapford Station to Brendam Docks using teamwork, friendship, and discovery. Parents: bring your camera for a photo op with Thomas to capture the special day. Daily, Jan. 1-27.

Jazz for Kids - Jazz Standard
Through May 31, 2013 - Gramercy

The Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra (JSYO), which includes about 25 talented musicians between the ages of 11 and 18, burns through jazz classics while listeners enjoys Blue Smoke's brunch menu (lunch menu, kids menu, and full bar are also available). Jazz Standard donates $1 from each kid's menu item sold to Spoons Across America.
