At The Museum of Feelings, a multisensory installation made by Glade, visitors will walk through each of five immersive scent exhibits, decorated with colors and images to evoke each emotion. The five scents and emotions are Optimism, Joy, Invigorated, Exhilarated, and Calm—almost reminiscent to the emotions depicted in Pixar’s Inside Out.
Children of all ages can appreciate the interactive elements of the museum and will have fun smelling the scents and learning about and identifying with different emotions.
The Optimistic exhibit is a pink room with reflective light beams and smells of a radiant berries scent. The Joy exhibit is a green canopy room that mimics the smell and feel of a balsam and fir forest.
The Invigorated exhibit is a blue room with marine and citrus notes and 3-D lights that react to motion. The Exhilarated exhibit is a mirrored room with a kaleidoscope of flowers and an interactive element that releases blooming peony and cherry fragrances when used. Finally, the Calm Exhibit is a magenta-colored space with “clouds” covering the floor with lavender and vanilla scent to fill the room.
At the very end of the museum, there is a Retail Lounge, where visitors can discover their “MoodLens”—a photo that captures a person’s mood based on Galvanic Skin Response that analyzes autonomic nerve responses and skin temperature. Once you take your photo, you can print it out and pick it up at the Interactive Scent Table, where you can purchase a corresponding candle that matches your MoodLens.
The Museum of Feelings will be open to the public from November 24 to December 15 at Brookfield Place, 230 Vesey St. in Battery Park City. Admission is free and is open daily from 11am-9pm, Monday-Saturday, and 11am-7pm on Sundays.
