Top Tweets of the Week (June 25, 2012)

If you know me even a little bit, you will know that I hate the rain. Truly, my disgust for droplets falling from the sky is one of the first things I tell new acquaintances, usually because I’m having to explain my policy of canceling plans if it is so much as drizzling (and not counting those cancellations as flaking out). I mean, nobody wants to leave the house when it rains, right? So I’m doing everyone a favor. I’ve missed many things due to rain–I once tried to cancel my own birthday party because it was supposed to rain (no one let me do that.) But the one date you can’t cancel on account of rain? A 9am date with your job on Monday morning. So alas, when I woke up this morning after a fun sunny weekend to encounter a full-on storm raging outside my window, complete with loud cackling thunder and bursts of lightning, I had no choice but to suit up and get going. So as we embark on this week’s Tweet Beat together, please just know the perils I braved to get here and write this for you today. Sure, the weather’s cleared up quite a bit now–but that didn’t help me at 8:30am as I sprinted from my stoop to the train, flip-flops flapping (I have yet to master the correct choice in footwear when it rains–whatever I choose ends up feeling wrong), umbrella blowing inside out, and heart sinking. I really put myself out there for you guys. It’s because I love you, and I love Twitter, and I know Tweet Beat is important to all of us. And also I’m required to show up, but that’s neither here nor there. The love is there, I promise. You’re welcome.

Hey Mother Nature, this is the kind of weather I like to see in June! Thunderstorms at 8:30am that coincide directly with my work commute? Not so much. See above for elaboration.

I may be biased, but I feel strongly that Dawn’s son is one of the cutest human beings on this earth. And now we know he’s tech-savvy, too. Someone hire this kid!

Woah! As a ‘burg-dwelling gal, this is exciting news for me. Anyone else? What with this and the pool, McCarren just became the #1 Brooklyn Hotspot of Summer 2012.

This, IMHO, is a brilliant idea. Think of all the reading you could do while washing! Think of all the washing you could do while reading! It’s genius. What else can we combine in this world? Only so many hours in a day, we’ve gotta start multi-tasking more proactively.

As any good Pinterest should. What else would we use it for?

My dad likes to tell me all music made after the Beatles resembles “noise,” but if you can be a little more open-minded than that I bet some great connections can be made using music as a jump-off point! (And on the off-chance he’s reading this–I love you, Dad, even though you hate all my radio stations!)

Home-schooling is becoming more popular and it seems to be a hot issue to discuss right now. We weighed inwith the benefits and challenges in our July issue–make sure to check it out and add your voice to the conversation (both online and off).

I don’t know if I personally agree with all these sentiments; I always think it’s sweet when someone thanks everyone for kind birthday wishes. Have I been horribly naive? Where’s your line in the sand when it comes to digital TMI?

Ilana, when you’re done hanging with Gisele, we’re totally down for a playdate. We tend to have really delicious homemade desserts laying around the office on any given day, just sayin’.

What delightful inspiration on a gloomy day. Okay I know it’s not really gloomy outside anymore, but the letters are still inspirational and I’m still in a bad mood from the morning’s storm.

So I know you’re busy and we haven’t even invented the libromat yet so you’re not multi-tasking at your full capacity, but I really think you should make some time to check out our parent company’s new project. Thought Gallery is a place for intellectually curious individuals to discover NYC lectures, presentations, talks, seminars, and panel discussions. Doesn’t that sound like a thing you’d like to explore if you can book a babysitter within the next 6 months? And also if it doesn’t rain… Join us on Mondays for more Top Tweets. In the meantime, follow us @NYMetroParents for practical parenting advice, local events in the NY Metro area, exclusive deals and discounts, and occasionally hilarious staff banter.
