Treebath Forest Therapy Program Opens Jersey City Location

Treebath offers kids after school programs in Brooklyn Bridge Park, The Battery, Central Park, Forest Park, and, as of September, Liberty State Park in Jersey City adjacent to the Morris Canal. In August, Treebath added five teachers to its Outdoor Team roster, after a full day of training and CPR certification, to help expand programs and  bring more kids outside, according to Oskar Elmgart, co-founder of Treebath.

Founded in 2017 by NYC-based couple Nicole and Oskar Elmgart, Treebath was built when they felt their kids weren't getting outside enough while they had spent a lot of time exploring nature while they were growing up. As far as expanding into Jersey City, Nicole said that many families in the area had shown interest in having a Treebath program there, so they worked with Liberty State Park to receive permits.

Treebath's Outdoor Team is composed of educators and professionals in various disciplines who are either state-certified teachers or have experience working with children in daycare or preschool environments.

Treebath's after-school programs are offered at local parks for children pre-K to second grade on weekdays from 3:30-5:30pm. Each class in the Scandinavian-inspired curriculum incorporates one active, one mindful, and one cognitive learning component.

In addition to kids programs, Treebath offers Forest Therapy Walks for adults, a practice that originated in Japan to alleviate stress through mindful, meditative walks, as Nicole and Oskar are both certified forest therapy guides.
