Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts in Wheatley Heights is now offering a variety of new classes in art and architecture, plus the option to attend a shorter, two-week camp session in 2017.

Usdan is developing its curriculum by welcoming noted artists, including high-profile dance troupes The Ailey Organization, Martha Graham, and Pilobolus to its performing arts programs. The sustainable art curriculum, designed by Usdan staff and noted artist Olafur Eliasson’s Little Sun team, is new to the 2017 season as well.

“Usdan has a history of collaborating with major artists and cultural organizations, and we are thrilled to welcome back the three dance giants to kick off our collaboration with Little Sun,” says Lauren Brandt Schloss, Usdan’s executive director.

Other classes include stop motion animation, cosplay (costume play), and building with Minecraft. These classes aim to blend modern interests with old school education. Other offerings include Quidditch, archery, and yoga, as well as audition bootcamp, filmmaking, creative writing, LEGO design, chess, and more.

Usdan Summer Camp for the Arts’ mission is for every child to develop a relationship with the arts. Classes are available for children ages 4-18 and sessions are offered in two-, four-, or seven-week periods. It offers more than 70 programs in music, theater, visual arts, creative writing, dance, nature, recreation, and chess. One-third of Usdan’s students receive scholarships based on merit or family need.
