Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the largest children's literacy nonprofit organization in the United States, which prepares and motivates children to read by delivering free books and literacy resources to those children and families who need them most, celebrated its 45th birthday this month. Check out our tribute to the organization below.

On November 3, Reading is Fundamental (RIF) celebrated 45 years of providing books to millions of disadvantaged children across the U.S. Throughout the last half-century, RIF has shown that encouraging reading helps children overcome obstacles -- opening the door to a wider world of experiences and possibilities.

In celebration of RIF's milestone, we've compiled some of our favorite articles about encouraging children's literacy:

Show Your Support

More than 16 million kids are currently living in poverty, the highest number in two decades. And RIF's longtime support from the U.S. federal government through the Department of Education has been cut in its entirety. Reading Is Fundamental now relies solely on the generous support of caring donors like you. To make a tax-deductible donation to RIF, click here.
