This summer, explore local history and the landscape on the fifth annual River Day, at Van Cortlandt Manor. Launched by Historic Hudson Valley, the event aims to educate the community about the importance of conserving the fragile watershed and ways to preserve the surrounding environment. Many organizations, including the Saw Mill River Audubon Society, Beczak Environmental Education Center, the New York State Hudson River Estuary program, the Adirondack Guide Boat, Rocking the Boat, and Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, will come together for this family-friendly day of history and summer fun.

With activities like knot tying, fishing, brick making, and open hearth cooking, plus kayak and canoe expeditions, participants get a feel for how our ancestors lived in the area. Travel back in time and learn how important the Croton and Hudson Rivers were to early settlers in the 18th and 19th centuries, and find out what can be done to nurture these rivers today. There will also be modern boat building demonstrations, live music and entertainment, kid-friendly environmental education programs, picnic food, and storytelling. River Day is sponsored by Fujifilm U.S.A. Inc.
