Sensational Tuesdays for Kids With Special Needs - Bounce! Trampoline Sports

Bounce! Trampoline Sports has teamed up with Giant Leaps Occupational Therapy to offer a special evening for those with Sensory Processing Disorders and others with sensory challenges including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The program is geared toward children with sensory issues and those on the autism spectrum. The the hour-long program will include decreased auditory and visual stimuli in a less crowded environment, structured group activities with limited class size, and an available quiet room with sensory manipulatives. Family members or buddies are invited to participate with those who thrive with 1:1 assistance.

Dutchess County Fair - Dutchess County Fair

For six days every August, the fairgrounds on Route 9 in Rhinbeck play host to nearly a half a million patrons. There are more than 144 acres of land here, which make this the ideal setting to see thousands of farm animals. Enter a magical environment all a flutter with beautiful tropical butterflies in "Butterfly Landing," a special walk-through encounter. This exhibit features dozens of varieties of butterflies from both Asia and South America. Keep in mind that as you walk through the exhibit, some of these beautiful butterflies may land on your head or arm. Prepare to get emotionally connected.For viewers with an aversion to close encounters with animals, viewing of the butterflies will be possible from outside the exhibit.

Washington's Headquarters Extended Hours - Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site

Washington's Headquarters State Historic Site, in Newburgh, begins its 2015 expanded operating hours on April 15th. Every Wednesday through Saturday, 11:00 AM until 5:00 PM and Sunday, 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM, the site will be open for visitors. The historic Hasbrouck House which served as Headquarters for General Washington, was also used by his wife Martha, several of his aides, guards, and servants. It was here that General Washington announced the cease fire, composed a document that articulated his thoughts for the new republic, and created the Badge of Military Merit, forerunner of the Purple Heart. So much history is within the walls of this house, the first publicly owned historic site in the nation, opening in 1850. Admission includes a tour of the historic Headquarters and time to explore the Museum and exhibits. In addition, special programs, events, and presentations will be scheduled throughout the season. American Museum of Natural History Presents: Spiders Alive! - American Museum of Natural History

Back by popular demand this exhibit is a comprehensive look at the fascinating and complex world of arachnids. Among the exhibition’s live animals are 16 species of spiders, two species of scorpion, a chemical-spewing vinegaroon, and several long-legged tailless whip spiders—which aren’t spiders at all. The Museum, which has the world’s largest research collection of spiders, has been at the forefront of studying spider diversity for over 75 years. In Spiders Alive!, visitors will explore spider anatomy, diversity, venom, silk, and encounter little known behaviors such as mimicry and noisemaking. In addition to live spiders, the exhibition features videos, fossils, and larger-than-life models, including a huge, climbable trapdoor spider. Museum staff will handle live arachnids for visitors to see up close, and the exhibition will focus on debunking spider myths like their needing gravity to build webs, that they all neglect their offspring, and that all spiders are dangerous to humans.

Meet the Animals - Hudson Highlands Nature Museum's Wildlife Education Center
