The images in the book visualize their frolic in fanciful settings, encouraging readers, be they children or grown-ups, to continue on in their own silly, playful game of pretend, but with a message of love. CREATE SOMETHING GREAT? RECYCLED SCULPTURE CONTEST - Portledge School

Students in pre-K through sixth grade are encouraged to build sculptures made out of recycled and/or reusable materials designed around the theme of nocturnal animals such as bats, fireflies, raccoons, owls, skunks, and tarantulas. The Three Little Pigs - Theatre Three

Here's a message for the whole family. Three pigs, two lost mice, and a rappin' wolf makes for a fun-filled version of the famous story. Told completely in song and verse, this original musical focuses on issues of race relations and the homeless. The show runs through March 17, 2012.

Exhibition: The Paintings of Louis Comfort Tiffany: Works from a Long Island Collection - Nassau County Museum of Art

Drawn from an important Long Island collection, this major exhibition showcases more than 100 original works by Louis Comfort Tiffany, offering an uncommon glimpse into the artist’s personal world. Tiffany’s light-filled Orientalism and his use of sensuous Art Nouveau lines contrasted sharply with the era’s prevailing dark Victorian décor and had a powerful influence on the evolving aesthetics of the wealthy and famous of the Gilded Age. The exhibition runs through March 2012.

No longer just for child’s play, plastic toy building bricks have become material for fine art. The New York sculptor, Nathan Sawaya, is among the most prominent of contemporary artists working with Lego® blocks. Sawaya’s work, exploring themes of identity, elevates brick art to a new phase of artistic expression through large-scale sculptures that portray complexities of the human condition. The exhibition runs through March 18, 2012.

The Disappearing Landscape: Selections from the Hofstra University Museum - Hofstra University Museum, Emily Lowe Gallery

This original exhibition features 27 drawings, paintings, photographs, prints and sculpture from the Museum’s permanent collection created by international artists from the United States, Russia, and Japan, among other countries. The works date from the early 19th century to the 21st century. Featured artists include Alexander Calder, Harry Callahan, Lucien Clergue, Currier & Ives, Edwin Dickinson, Sally Gall, April Gornik, James McDougal Hart, Katsushika Hokusai, Donald Resnick, Yevgeny Rukhin, Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin and Michael A. Smith. These works illustrate the artistic need to capture the ever-changing and disappearing global landscape. The exhibition runs through March 18, 2012.

Across Time & Place: Treasures from the Permanent Collection - The Heckscher Museum of Art

This rotating exhibition of highlights from the Permanent Collection features a broad range of works by American and European artists of the 19th and 20th centuries. Of particular interest is �tienne Berne-Bellecour?s monumental "Embarkation Maneuver," 1882, which factually depicts the departure of a regiment of cuirassiers following the Franco-Prussian War, in contrast to the acerbic commentary on the Weimar Republic seen in George Grosz?s equally monumental "Eclipse of the Sun," 1926.

A Way with Words: Text in Art Exhibition - The Heckscher Museum of Art

This exhibition of works from the Permanent Collection presents art that includes words, lettering, numbers, or symbols as subject, design element, or annotation. In using text as a visual element, these works remove the written word from its expected context, encouraging us to perceive it as image and giving new meaning to the cliché “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

The Mystery of the Mayan Medallion - Long Island Children's Museum

On Sundays, through September 2012, visitors can walk through the dictionary of the Hebrew Alef-Bet. Letters form the words that lead you and your children through the basics of being a Mensch.
