Campaign for Wool - Bryant Park
September 27, 2012 - Midtown

On September 27, sheep will be brought in to Bryant Park to graze freely and play center stage in an installation which will transform the outdoor space an interactive woolen wonderland. The park's fountain will be drained for the day and filled with wool and yarn, and several trees and benches in the park will be covered with wool fabric. A table will be set up to showcase how raw wool is sorted. Crafting and knitting stations will showcase wool-centered activities. A custom made bed made primarily of wool will be on site, along with the craftsman who made it, to highlight the process of creating a mattress from wool.

Fall Harvest Festival - Green Chimneys

Celebrating its sixth year, the Fall Harvest Festival offers fun-filled and educational activities for the entire family. The day begins with a Children's Harvest Fun Run around the Green Chimneys horse barn. The rest of the day is filled with great seasonal activities like the Pumpkin Roll, pumpkin decorating, hayrides, and a hay maze. Additional activities include the ever-popular bungee trampoline, pony rides, arts & crafts for kids, wildlife demonstrations, and other live animal events. Visitors are encouraged to explore Green Chimneys' renowned Farm & Wildlife Center, home to nearly 300 animals including unreleasable wildlife (eagles, hawks, owls), horses, camels, sheep, goats, pigs, llamas, and more. The students of Green Chimneys School have some special needs of their own, and through the rehabilitation and care of these animals they learn compassion, encouragement, and the true meaning of stewardship. Rain date: Sunday, September 30.

Opening Weekend of Peekskill Project V: The New Hudson River School - Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art
September 29, 2012 - Peekskill

A citywide public art festival devoted to bringing contemporary art out of the museum and into the community. Peekskill Project V activates the urban environment and its inhabitants through site-specific art exhibitions, performances, and screenings sited in multiple venues throughout Peekskill. During Opening Weekend, participating artists will discuss their work at various venues throughout Peekskill, there will be a live concert and free public reception with music and refreshments. PS 6 Back to School Bash - PS 6
September 29, 2012 - Upper East Side

The PS 6 2012 Back to School Bash will take place on E. 82nd Street between Park and Madison Avenues on Sept. 29 from 11am-4pm. There will be rides, carnival games, crafts, great food, music and a street fair. There is no entrance fee, but tickets will be available for purchase and required for most activities. 51st Annual Armonk Outdoor Art Show - Community Park

Schoolfest 2012 - PS 84: Jose de Diego Magnet School

Learn about different schools, from pre-schools to colleges at this school fair. Parents and kids will walk away with understanding of the special education process, applying to charter and private schools, college financing, and how to apply to the right school in NYC's department of education.

Union Square Autumn Fair - Union Square Park

4th Annual Hounds on the Sound Dog Walk-a-thon & Festival - Glen Island Park
September 30, 2012 - New Rochelle

Leash your dog (not the kids!) and take a leisurely 1.5 mile stroll along Long Island Sound, followed by a fun afternoon with vendors, refreshments, activities for kids, demonstrations, games, contests, and more. Phil Reisman from The Journal News will cut the ribbon. Dogs and cats will be available for adoption. Proceeds benefit Larchmont Pet Rescue and New Rochelle Humane Society.

4th Annual Mineola Street Fair - Mineola Chamber of Commerce

Atlantic Antic - Atlantic Avenue

The stretch of Atlantic Avenue running between 4th Avenue and Hicks Street is fun because of its stores, which include some holdouts from the strip's days as an antiquing mecca, to outposts for designers like Jonathan Adler. Add some strollers and interesting vendors and you have a really great street fair.

Medieval Festival - Fort Tryon Park and the Cloisters
September 30, 2012 - Washington Heights

The Medieval Festival brings to life the customs and spirit of the Middle Ages. Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park is transformed into a medieval market town decorated with bright banners and processional flags. Performers, guests and festival goers dress in medieval costume. Visitors are greeted by authentic medieval music, dance, magic and minstrels, as well as jugglers and jesters. Costumed vendors will be on hand to demonstrate and sell a wide variety of medieval crafts as well as food and drink. The afternoon concludes with a thrilling joust between four knights on horseback. The Festival extends all the way around the world-famous Cloisters, a magnificent museum of medieval art. Visitors are encouraged to come by public transportation. Take the A train to 190th St. or the M4 bus to 190th and Fort Washington Avenue. The Festival is produced by the Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corporation, a privately and publicly supported not-for-profit corporation. The event is jointly sponsored by WHIDC and the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.

2012 World Maker Faire - New York Hall of Science

Get inspired to make, create, learn, invent, craft, recycle, build, think, and play while celebrating art, science, and technology. Hundreds of "makers" will present fun and unusual creations such as rockets and robots. There will also be arts and crafts, artisanal foods, live music, and much more.

Children's Day at the Seaport - South Street Seaport
September 30, 2012 - Lower Manhattan

Children's Day originally started at the World Trade Center in 1993. This year there will be a special appearance by Sesame Street's Elmo to celebrate 10 years at the Seaport and 18 years since the very first event. Children's Day is a multi-faceted event that draws 30,000+ parents and children from across the tri-state area. Musical performances, walk-around characters, hands-on art projects, storytime events and vibrant theater entertain the stroller set. More free family entertainment closes the day with the Target fireworks spectacular and a family-focused concert on the Seaport's Pier 17 stage. Will take place rain or shine.

Long Island Garlic Festival - Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market

Taste of the Seaport - South Street Seaport

Taste of The Seaport is a culinary fundraiser featuring area restaurants and local entertainment. Funds raised will benefit the Spruce Street School's enrichment programs in art, music, and physical education. Anticipated participants will represent the wide variety of dining options available at South Street Seaport and in the surrounding neighborhood. This year's participants include Aqua, Cowgirl Seahorse, Il Brigante, Made Fresh Daily, Nelson Blue, Red, Salud, Keg 220, Stella, and Barbarini.

East River Moon Festival - New Amsterdam Market
September 30, 2012 - New York

The first annual East River Moon Festival will introduce market-goers to the traditional mid-autumn harvest celebrations that take place throughout East Asia on the full moon day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. The day-long festivities will include a traditional lion dance performance, Asian-inspired market fare, a dumpling making workshop with chef Wai Hon Chu from Wholefoods Culinary Center, and lantern making for children with the Museum of Chinese in America. At sundown, from 6-8pm, there will be a community lantern-lighting gathering.

Apple and Pumpkin Picking - The Orchards of Concklin
Through October 21, 2012 - Pomona

Beginning Sept. 8, the orchards are open for picking each weekend through Oct. 21. Apple varieties include Cortland, McIntosh, Red Delicious, Empires, Golden Delicious, Winesap, Rome, Fuji, and Macouns. Call ahead to see which ones will be available each weekend. The weekends of Oct. 13 and 20, kids can also pick their own pumpkins. Children's inflatables will be available each weekend from 12-5pm.
