Family Art Project: Flags and Kites for Earth Day - Wave Hill

Visiting Artist Miwa Koizumi, who in her own work repurposes found plastic bottles to dazzling effect, will show families how to make simple kites and festive flags out of colorful plastic bags to celebrate Earth Day. Free, and admission to the grounds is free until 12pm.

The exhibit will showcase the Loft Artists Association's members, as they exhibit their new creations from older artworks, recycled household items and other goodies, being used in an imaginative piece of art. Earth Day Family Volunteer Project - Stamford Museum and Nature Center
April 21, 2013 - Stamford

In honor of Earth Day, join the center for a "garlic mustard pull." Garlic mustard was introduced in North America in the 1860's as a culinary herb. Today, it is an invasive species in much of Connecticut. Left unchecked, it has the potential to become the dominant plant in the undergrowth of forests, greatly reducing the diversity of all species. The garlic mustard leaves harvested during this Earth Day activity will be offered to local food banks to help feed the hungry. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event. This family volunteer project is open to volunteers ages 11 and older. (Ages 11 - 14 must be accompanied by an adult.) Adult team captains desired. Advance registration is required. Stag Kids Reading Club - Fairfield University Bookstore

Students in grades 1-8 are invited to join this incentive based reading program in partnership with the Bridgeport Bluefish and Fairfield University's Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts. Read a minimum of 5 books and write one original book review between April 14 - July 14, 2013 and receive one free ticket to the Bridgeport Bluefish game on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 1:05pm. Additional tickets are available for purchase for $10. The Stag Kids Reading group will meet the players before the game for a private autograph session, run the bases after the game and a public announcement will acknowledge the students' reading success. One lucky member chosen at random will get to throw out the first pitch. Other raffle prizes include two free tickets to any Quick Center Performance Series Event (no expiration date) and a $25 Gift Card to the Fairfield University Bookstore (no expiration date).
