Meet the Author - Nicholas DiGiovanni - Somers Library

Somers Library presents novelist, essayist, and journalist, Nicholas DiGiovanni, who will read from "Rip," his modern, satirical retelling of Washington Irving's classic tale, "Rip Van Winkle." Imagine Washington Irving sitting down for a friendly drink and spinning yarns with Kurt Vonnegut and Thomas Pynchon, and you'll get an idea of the flavor of "Rip." DiGiovanni brings Rip Van Winkle into the Sixties, finds him gainful employment as a toll-taker on the Tappan Zee Bridge, has him spend most of his free time hanging out at a place called the Sunnyside Tavern with ne'er-do-well, Rheingold-beer-drinking friends who call themselves the Sleepy Hollow boys, and makes his long-suffering wife a charter member in the feminist movement just starting to sweep the country.
