Alex Greco, Summer 2013 Editorial Intern
For the past two years, I've attended American University in Washington, D.C., where I'll be a junior this fall.

While at school, my time is generally split between two activities: studying and editing. I’m currently pursuing a major in political science as well as a minor in Spanish and print journalism.
When I'm not hitting the books, I'm usually in the office of The Eagle, AU's campus newspaper. As the managing editor for news, I oversee the news content for my entire university and lead a team of about 10 people. Even though my schedule can get hectic with such a demanding activity, I love every second of it.
I'm not all books and paper, though! Drawing, photography, and yoga are some of my favorite hobbies. My summer goal is to master the "scorpion pose," a yoga position which requires you to hold up your entire body with only two hands. My weekends consist of spending time with friends and family, the two most important groups of people in my life.
D.C. now feels like home, but New York is still one of a kind. The contrast between the two cities is astounding: the clean Metro versus the dirty subway, the herds of black suits versus the fashion-forward crowds, etc. Switching back and forth from two such great places used to be difficult, but I’ve learned to enjoy the process.
As an intern, I look forward to meeting new people and getting a better sense of what it’s like to work at a large-scale publication. I hope to leave this position with a better understanding of the business and editorial components of media, as well as what it's like to work in a small, friendly office.
