12th Annual Winter?s Eve at Lincoln Square - Lincoln Square

This huge outdoor neighborhood festival will feature free family fun, children's activities, live entertainment, food tastings, and shopping throughout the Lincoln Square area. The celebration will begin at 5:30pm with a Neighborhood Tree Lighting ceremony at Broadway and 63rd Street. Kids' Central is located at the American Bible Society on Broadway and 61st Street. Joanie Leeds & Nightlights will be performing their repertoire of "kindie" favorites in two 45-60 minute sets at 6:15pm and 7:15pm. Mayor Ed Koch will read from his new book "Eddie Shapes Up," followed by a book signing meet-and-greet. Also at this location, children and their parents can participate in arts and crafts projects from the West Side YMCA and a take-home seed activity with the New York Society for Ethical Culture, while enjoying free samples of the world-famous Magnolia Bakery cupcakes. At Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle, additional children's activities will include performances by the Big Apple Circus and the Broadway show "Sister Act." Student choruses will be held at Samsung Experience while Arm-of-the-Sea theater puppets, as well as stilt-walkers, jugglers, and dance troupes will delight all on the sidewalks of Lincoln Square. Children can have a professional photo taken with Santa at Brooks Brothers from 5:30-8pm, or greet Santa at Gracious Home at 6pm. Finally, the neighborhood's top restaurants will offer delicious food tastings at a nominal fee, including chocolate bouchons from Bouchon Bakery, black forest cupcakes from Epicerie Boulud, and gingerbread with fresh whipped cream from Soutine Bakery. In the spirit of holiday giving, The New York Cares Coat Drive is this year's Winter's Eve charitable partner; event-goers are encouraged to bring a gently used or new coat to donate at various drop-off locations throughout the district.

Now in its seventh year, Citi Pond at Bryant Park, New York City's only free-admission ice skating rink, invites New Yorkers to get in the holiday spirit as it hosts its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. Guests of all ages can enjoy special musical performances by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan, live Broadway musical entertainment, Olympic ice skating routines, and synchronized skating performances. The hour-long ceremony, beginning at 7pm, will lead up to the lighting of the 50-foot tree filled with more than 3,000 ornaments and thousands of LED lights. The tree will remain lit through the end of 2011. Auditions for 'Industry Showcase Night' - The Random Arts Performing Arts Center

Westchester's non-profit Random Farms Kids' Theater, in conjunction with NYC's Broadway Workshop, will hold auditions for their annual "Industry Showcase Night" on December 1 and 3 in Westchester at The Random Arts Performing Center (77 Executive Boulevard, Elmsford, NY 10523) and December 4 at Ripley Grier in NYC (520 Eighth Avenue). Auditions are open to young people ages 5-18. "Industry Showcase Night" is an opportunity for kids and teens to perform in front of NYC's top agents, managers and casting directors. Those chosen for the showcase will have one rehearsal in Elmsford on December 9. You must be available for the performance in NYC on December 20. Prepare one minute of material - a song, monologue, or combination of both. Or just tell a joke! You could even make up a commercial or tell a story. Industry professionals are looking for "raw" talent. What you do is less important than showing your personality. Past participants of "Industry Showcase Night" include young actors currently starring on Broadway and in film and TV. There is no cost to audition or participate in this event. 'Remembering 9/11' Exhibit - New-York Historical Society
Through April 01, 2012 - Upper West Side

To commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the New-York Historical Society presents this special exhibition, which includes a selection of several hundred photographs taken by professional and amateur photographers in the immediate aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center (originally collected in the independent exhibition "here is new york: a democracy of photographs"), as well as letters written to policemen and firemen; objects that were placed in makeshift shrines around New York; images and texts from The New York Times "Portraits of Grief" series; photographs of the Tribute in Light; and drawings of the National September 11 Memorial. When the renovated and transformed New-York Historical Society opens fully to the public on November 11, 2011, "Remembering 9/11" will be joined by a permanent installation of photographs from "here is new york" in the Robert H. and Clarice Smith New York Gallery of American History. Approximately 1,500 photographs by 790 contributors will be on display, along with a large fragment of a fire truck destroyed during the 9/11 attack.

Jazz for Kids - Jazz Standard

The Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra (JSYO), which includes about 25 talented musicians between the ages of 11 and 18, burns through jazz classics while listeners enjoys Blue Smoke's brunch menu (lunch menu, kids menu, and full bar are also available). Jazz Standard donates $1 from each kid's menu item sold to Spoons Across America.

Mother 2 Mother (M2M) Breastfeeding Support Group - Rockland County Department of Health

The Rockland County Department of Health encourages nursing mothers (and babies) and pregnant women to attend this free meeting to help them get started or continue breastfeeding successfully.
