Alice Currah, a mom of three and celebrated food blogger, petitions her husband for a day off this Mother's Day. Follow her lead for a relaxing day that starts with a delicious breakfast in bed.

mother's day breakfast in bedDear Rob,

As you know, Mother's Day is approaching quickly. I wanted to remind you, to save you the trouble of running over to the drugstore that morning, hoping you'll find a card that articulates what a wonderful mom I've been to our three children. I know the kids will be making me homemade cards, which I absolutely love. But what I want from you is not a card. Instead, I would like at least one (preferably all) of the ideas I'm about to share with you.

1. Let me sleep in. To be able to wake up as late as I want would be awesome. Since this rarely happens, I'd appreciate it more than you could ever know. What this means for you, darling husband, is waking up when the kids wake up and making sure they understand that I'm not to be disturbed until I've decided to come out of my sleeping chamber.

If you're feeding the kids anyway, breakfast in bed would be wonderful (hint hint, wink wink). I've set out a few of my favorite recipes to help you choose, including one for Nutella, Strawberry, and Banana Crepes.

3. Clean up. After the kids have barged into our bedroom because they couldn't wait for me to get up to wish me a happy Mother's Day, it would be nice to know that a pile of dirty dishes isn't waiting for me in the kitchen sink.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for lunch and dinner. If you insist on getting me a gift, may I suggest the gift of time? It's free and means more to me than adding the latest World's Greatest Mom mug to my growing collection of Happy Mother's Day dishware. Free time allows me to do whatever I want all day long without having to lift a finger. If you want bonus points, washing and vacuuming the car, paying particular attention to the Cheerios underneath the seats and in hard-to-reach places, would really make this Mother's Day the second-best present ever.

P.S. I wouldn’t stop you from getting me a gift certificate for a pedicure…just saying.
