HANDS ON! PRESENTS THE CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS 

MUSIC CLASS 

This fall Hands On! A Musical Experience presents The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. Our specially formatted curriculum combines story and song. Each week, children will be introduced to a new animal through its musical representation as expressed by Saint-Saëns. A favorite movement, the introduction of the elephant, is depicted by using the large double bass. The teacher, accompanied by a pianist, plays the elephant section while children are actively engaged, listening and imaging. Children are encouraged to touch the instrument, feeling the vibration of the double bass when played, and to pluck the strings themselves. They will also have small-scaled stringed instruments to play. Each week a new animal and instrument is added, so by the end of the session, a full symphony is created in the finale movement. In addition to this musical theme, Hands On! presents its core curriculum, which teaches musical concepts by using a children?s repertoire of lullabies, folk songs and nursery rhymes. This original curriculum illustrates Hands On!?s mission of integrating theme with educational components in a way that initiates other learning such as the acquisition of language, auditory discrimination and social understanding. ART CLASS 

This fall Hands On! Creative Arts will explore the musical suite The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns. Our specially formatted curriculum exposes children to techniques and self-expression. Each week we will learn about a new animal studying its figure and actions, depicting these shapes and ideas through various mediums. Students will combine visual observation, sounds and imagination to create images. The curriculum is a theme based planned progression, but allows for emergent ideas and learning. The exploration of art materials encourages problem solving and cooperation. In addition, children will learn language skills and develop socially through interacting with peers, as well as teachers and parents in a safe, friendly environment. A perfect way to learn about the animals of the world and ways of representation and experimentation, join us as we explore through art this favorite orchestral piece.

HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDE
This session, we will take an imaginary musical adventure with Teddy the taxi driver and the Hands On! crew as we motor around Manhattan. Together, we’ll explore New York City’s rich and diverse musical culture.

Creative Arts is a specially formatted program that guides toddlers and preschoolers towards self-expression, helps them develop problem-solving skills, and instills in children an appreciation for art. Music or art birthday parties available.
