In Grandma's Attic
Various locations in Manhattan | (212) 726-2362 | www.ingrandmasattic.com

In Grandma's Attic is a creative children's fantasy dance program for Ages 2-16. It is designed to nurture a dance student from the early years of Pre-Ballet training through Intermediate Levels of ballet.

Alongside the training aspects, the program also gives students the look and feel of ballet as a performance art for the stage with use of costumes, headpieces, props, scenery, fairytales or classical ballet stories. By fostering the creative process and self expression, students develop in a wholesome, natural progression while gently taught ballet.

In the younger classes, students dress-up and pretend to be characters in the stories. Storydancing, creative movement, improvisation and acting skills are strongly developed.Students spend a large portion of their formative dance years nurturing their imaginations and love of stories and they will carry these deeply stored movement experiences with them into their dancing futures.

In the older classes for children and teens, special opportunities are given to present original ballet stories created for the students based on their joys and interests. Examples include, The Merry-Go-Round and Sleepover ballets!

For fourteen years, In Grandma's Attic has become an essential part of growing up in New York City!

Other Classes, Workshops & Parties

In Grandma's Attic also offers children's yoga, classical jazz, ballet workshops and ballet birthday parties year-round.

The Yoga Way

Students study and practice yoga poses fused seamlessly with movement and dancing. We celebrate our aliveness with songs, games and stories. Through breathing, meditation and deep relaxation, students can wind down and relax.

Classical Jazz: Students will learn traditional jazz styles and musical theater techniques.  The class will begin with a warm up featuring isolations and basic jazz steps.  Traveling movements across the floor will follow, and the class will end with a short combination.  The goal of the class will be to learn to move to jazz syncopations and have fun performing.

Ballet Workshops

Run two or more hours each and combine the best in Grandma's Attic has to offer with even more storydancing along with theme-related arts and crafts, yoga, rehearsing with a ballerina, making up a solo or learning a group dance! Workshops are titled Favorite Fairytales, Dance-A-Ballet, Make-A-Solo, My Turn to Dance, and It's All about Rehearsal!

Workshops are held throughout the summer session, and periodically throughout the year including December (to study The Nutcracker story) and over Spring Break. Please inquire about our seasonal schedule for workshops.

Ballet Birthday Parties

Are loads of fun for the celebrant and guests as we dress-up and pretend to be! The celebrant selects a fairytale and we bring the story, costumes, headpieces and props for everyone to enjoy! Ballet birthday parties may be arranged in your home, at a studio or other site, subject to availability.

We also offer 2-hour Grandma's Tea Parties and after the first dancing hour of adventures with the garden fairies returning to Grandma's house for her Grand Tea Party, Grandma listens endearingly to the fairies' tales as everyone enjoys tea and birthday cake!
