Thank you for choosing to learn more about Camps ‘R’ Us. We provide a fun, safe and affordable summer day camp experience for children ages three through fifteen. With so many options for summer day care out there, we are honored that you have considered us as your child’s summer day camp.
During the summer, children get a well deserved vacation from school, but parents still have to work. As a family owned and operated camp, we know the worries that parents face when school ends and summer begins. It is for this reason that we founded Camps ‘R’ Us.
Camps ‘R’ Us takes the worry out of planning your child’s summer vacation.
Our camp fees are less expensive than other similar camp programs, but did you know that they’re also less than the cost of a babysitter? That means you won’t have to break the bank to afford summer camp. In addition, your child will join a camp community that will enrich their physical, social and emotional well-being. Even the best babysitters in the world can’t do that!
We created Camps ‘R’ Us with working parents in mind. You can customize your child’s summer schedule to meet your specific needs, with your choice of weeks and days. We offer a full day program and there are extended hours available if needed. In addition, all campuses are located within minutes of major roadways and LIRR stations, so you won’t have to change your work schedule to accommodate your child’s camp schedule.
This summer, you can rest assured that your child is safe with us. We employ the most caring, conscientious, and child-centered counselors in the camp industry. Camps ‘R’ Us is licensed by the New York State Department of Health in Nassau & Suffolk County. We are also accredited by the American Camp Association, and are the recipient of the prestigious Safety 1st Award.
Overview Camps ‘R’ Us’ youngest campers enjoy a fun-filled first camp experience that offers a full day of enrichment through specialized activities for 3 and 4 year old boys and girls. Our Tiny Tots program is designed to complement the unique complexities of early childhood.
Campers thrive in an exceptionally supportive camp environment, with an extremely low camper to staff ratio, age appropriate curriculum and an introduction to a wide variety of sports and large motor activities.
Developmental Milestones During the summer, campers will acquire a greater ability to reason, plan and remember through carefully selected activities designed to enhance their development. As they begin to better understand common social conventions, our staff will initiate games based on cooperative learning experiences, where close group interaction is essential. Athletics are also introduced to support camper’s development of agility, balance and coordination.
We offer a balanced, age-appropriate curriculum for 5 and 6 year old boys and girls who have just completed preschool or kindergarten. Our KinderKamp program offers a natural progression for campers who are ready to take on the challenges of more advanced activities, new experiences and enhanced programming.
Campers thrive in a very nurturing camp setting, with a low camper to staff ratio, scaled down equipment perfectly sized for active young campers, and the freedom to be creative through Arts & Crafts, Imagination Station, Music and Dance.
During the summer, campers will begin to model their behavior on the other children and staff around them, and we set the expected outcomes from the first moment everyone arrives at camp. Our staff empowers campers to share, develop friendships and cooperate with each other while reinforcing and encouraging the positive outcomes of good behavior. There is also a focus on improving fine motor skills through creative play and athletic skills through activities designed to develop strength, power and speed.
Once campers arrive in our grade-based divisions, they are very active and can’t wait to play! 1st & 2nd graders are ready for the full range of camp activities, and we offer a diverse curriculum with programming that introduces campers to mainstream sports, enhanced creative arts, and technology-based activities.
Campers thrive in a very active camp setting, with a low camper to staff ratio. Focus is given to physical and emotional development through non-competitive play and campers are encouraged to try new things without the risk typically associated with failure.
Campers in Division 12 are stimulated with activities that help them to improve their agility, balance and coordination. Staff offer frequent support and reassurance during activities that provide some difficulty, and campers are encouraged to push through boundaries to achieve success. New friendships are often developed at camp, and campers are encouraged to share their interests with the group. It’s important for children at this age to realize that everyone is unique, and that’s what makes us all special.
Camper-to-Counselor Ratio = 10
3rd and 4th graders experience camp from a whole new vantage point, with access to more programming options, including a tremendous range of athletic, gaming and creative activities.
Our enhanced sports program adds an element of friendly competition, with weekly league play in a variety of team sports.
Shades’ Famous Game Room opens campers up to a world of gaming that is unrivaled in the camp industry. In addition, campers can participate in more focused creative arts. They are also introduced to “CLUB,” which is optional programming, or choice-based curriculum.
Campers in Division 34 often formulate their own identity and personality during the summer. Friendships are made based on personal interests, and children are less reliant on parents to create play opportunities with others. Though girls and boys tend to differ on the size of their social groups at this age, our staff foster their composition to be completely open. Disagreements, rules and boundaries are commonly settled among campers themselves, allowing for the development of problem-solving skills.
Our 5th and 6th graders comprise the most senior camper division, and our innovative program allows campers to enjoy a comprehensive summer experience with a unique combination of scheduled activities and choice-based programming.
Emphasis on personal and team achievement is increased through friendly competition that encompasses many camp activities. Enhanced twice-weekly league play includes team standings, playoffs and awards.
“CLUB” activities are further developed, and campers can choose to participate in a variety of focused activities based on their personal interests. Shades’ Famous Game Room is a featured activity area for 5th and 6th graders, and the added element of tournaments with prizes provides the opportunity for skill development and “play with a purpose.”
Early adolescence is an interesting transition period for campers. We often see friendships further developed based on common interests, rather than input from parents or staff. Campers are typically classified into categories (i.e. “smart,” “sporty,” etc.), and it is very important for them to “fit in.” Our staff recognizes this need, and campers are given the opportunity to make decisions about group activities based on their interests. Being treated more like an adult makes campers feel more accepted, and allows them to be free to enjoy their time at camp without worrying about feeling misunderstood or under-appreciated.
The C2 (Camper 2 Counselor) Program is for campers who have completed 7th, 8th or 9th grade. It’s our version of a Counselor-In-Training program, designed specifically to assist in the transition from camper to staff member.
C2s are given the opportunity to take part in “real world” training, under the direct mentorship of a Camps ‘R’ Us counselor. During the summer, they are assigned to a group in a younger camper division to assist with programming and activities. Skills learned as a C2 include group management, leadership, and character building.
C2s are offered the opportunity to further their training experience by enrolling in an optional First Aid and CPR course. This training course is a modified version of the training received by Camps ‘R’ Us Health Designees, and it is available for an additional fee. Details and enrollment information will be distributed on campus during the summer
The skills developed as a C2 help campers dramatically as they prepare to become a Camps ‘R’ Us staff member. Campers who successfully complete this program are eligible for our Junior Counselor Internship once they complete 10th grade.
C2s have a significant competitive advantage when applying for a position at Camps ‘R’ Us, including an eligibility exemption that allows them to work at camp two years earlier than applicants who did not complete the program.
[info]The Camps ‘R’ Us C2 Program has an extremely limited enrollment at every campus. If you are interested in this program, please complete your enrollment as soon as possible.[/info]
The Camps ‘R’ Us C2 Program offers campers the perfect opportunity to develop their leadership skills in an environment designed for success.
