HBMS inspires and develops each student’s potential through excellence in music education with a commitment to creativity, collaboration, and community.
To enrich lives and create community through music.
Established in 1944, Hoff-Barthelson Music School has achieved national recognition as a premier community music school for its unsurpassed leadership in education, performance and outreach. It is one of the largest community music schools in the country, serving more than 1,800 students from 50 Westchester municipalities and beyond. The faculty of 90 is drawn from the nation's most distinguished performers and educators.
Open to all ages, the Music School offers a comprehensive music program of individualized instruction in both classical music and jazz idioms in combination with a sequential musicianship curriculum.
Participation in large and small instrumental ensembles and chorus and frequent performance opportunities in a warm, familial setting is a hallmark of the School's educational philosophy and an integral part of the curriculum.
A substantial number of Hoff-Barthelson graduates continue music studies at the collegiate level and pursue careers in performance and teaching; equally valued by the HBMS faculty are the number of HB students who, under their expert tutelage, acquire the technical skills and musical wisdom that will lead to a life-long enjoyment of music as avocational players or listeners.
