Storybook Theatre |
Preschool Ages: 3 1/2 - 5
It is never to early to introduce your little one to the wonders of drama! Crystal Theatre offers a preschool theatre class called, “Storybook Theatre”, for children ages three to five. Taught by certified educator Samantha Kulish, this class is a wonderful introduction to drama and movement. During each class students will step into their favorite storybooks and bring them to life! As well as playing pretend, students will also take part in fun-filled theatre exercises and movement games. If you participated in last seasons class, be ready for new stories and adventures! “Storybook Theatre” runs for nine weeks and culminates in a staged production on the last day of class in our theater for family and friends to attend. Let your little star shine!
Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Students will have tons of fun working on this exciting musical based on the classic storybook. A group of hungry soldiers visit a local village looking for a simple meal. When the villagers, who barely have enough food of their own, deny them a meal, the soldiers come up with a plan to not only feed themselves but the entire village! Students learn the basics of singing and acting and have the added payoff of a musical show on the big stage in this fun, low-stress class. Students receive learning CD’s of all the music and dialogue so they can practice at home. Taught by certified elementary ed teacher& director of more than 30 shows, Samantha Kulish and assisted by Debra Poruban, a pre-school teacher with more than 20 years experience. Join the fun as we “rock out” with “Stone Soup”!
2nd grade - 4th grade
As Santa's helpers, which consist of not only elves but fairy tale and Mother Goose characters, are working hard on making toys for the up-coming holiday season, mean old Mr. Barnaby and his rats are making mischief in and around Toyland. When Bo Peep finds out that her flock of sheep is missing, Santa's helpers do everything they can to rescue her sheep and stop Barnaby and his rats from almost ruining Christmas! Students also learn basic acting and singing skills, developing their voices and their stage presence. Students receive scripts and learning CD’s of all the music so they can practice at home. Taught by certified elementary ed teacher and director of more than 30 shows, Samantha Kulish and assisted by Debra Poruban, a pre-school teacher with more than 20 years experience.
The Three Dragons
5th - 9th Grade
The Willing family is about to lose their little home to the wrecking ball employed by miserly Snively Van Grudgely and his evil henchman, Raton de la Sneeque – and right before the holidays! Enter the three dragons – Cholmondeley, Fafnir and One Wing Low. They are three ancient statues that come to life and help young Sarah and Willy Willing save the day. The play and lyrics are the work of longtime area music critic and Crystal Opera emeritus-president, Arden Anderson-Broecking with music by Cheryl Kemeny. With challenging music, a focus on dramatic acting and the use of accents throughout the show, students will learn a great deal from performing in this drama set in England on the brink of World War I. Directed and Choreographed by Stacey Curti on Wednesday and Samantha Kulish on Thursday, with Musical Direction by Cheryl Kemeny and assisted by Debra Poruban.

Broadway Live Cabaret:
Join us on a trip to Broadway, where students will learn and get to perform some of the most popular Broadway music from yesterday to today! Students will get the opportunity to take part in a big Cabaret night; singing solos, duets, and more from Broadway favorites. There are no small parts! This is a great opportunity for students to get a lot of one-on-one attention in our small and supportive environment. Students should be prepared to do a lot of singing! This class is not for complete beginners or students planning to miss a lot of rehearsals, no student is double cast. We have an early performance date to avoid conflicts with school holiday concerts and other local productions, so students need to be able to commit to our rehearsal times without a lot of absences. Class is taught by Boston Conservatory graduate and longtime Crystal Theatre director/instructor Joseph Santaniello alongside Shannon Collins who holds a music degree from New York University. This class is going to be super fun! Life is a Cabaret, old chum, Come to the Cabaret!
