Description: Puppetworks performs its adaptation of Collodi's legendary tale, Pinocchio, with an original score and laughs galore.
Venue Description: Founded in 1980 by a group of theater artists led by Nicolas Coppola, Puppetworks is a nonprofit puppet theater in Brooklyn that is committed to preserving and presenting classic puppet theater. Using hand-carved wooden marionettes, Puppetworks aims to remain as faithful as possible to the original material they enact, usually children's folktales and fairytales from the U.S. and abroad.
Puppetworks has performed with the Little Orchestra Society, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble, the Orchestra da Camera, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic. The puppeteers finish every show with a behind-the-scenes demonstration, presenting the marionettes to the audience for closer inspection. The green main room, with a collection of the theater's puppets hanging from the walls, accommodates up to 75 people on weekends.
Puppetworks also visits schools to present various workshops, including puppetry?s history, classic trick marionettes, and creating your own project. Puppetworks offers space for private birthday parties for up to 50 people (both adults and children) on Saturdays and Sundays 4-6:30pm. This includes the current show and clean up.
Puppetworks is located on 338 6th Avenue (at 4th Street) in Park Slope. It is accessible by taking the F train to 7th Avenue, or the B-63 or B-67 bus.
