Father's Day Fun in Brooklyn

Looking for something fun to do with Dad this Father's Day? Check out our roundup of family-friendly events in Brooklyn this June that dads are sure to love.

Is dad the new mom? Is mom the same old mom, and dad the same old dad? Is mom the new dad? Will it be sunny out tomorrow? Who knows, but there seem to be a lot more dads at the playgrounds and pushing the strollers lately. The dads, deservedly, get a day of appreciation (Father's Day is June 17), and there are some great family-friendly events in Brooklyn that honor them:

Red Hook Jazz FestivalJune 10 and 17

Dads Dig Jazz

Jazzy dads might enjoy the Red Hook Jazz Festival, which offers a variety of jazz—with groups ranging from traditional to modern—and lots of food by the breezy Red Hook waterfront. (Free for kids!)

June 16-17

Dads who dig jazz can also head to the Brooklyn Children’s Museum for Cool Jazzy Dads. The kids can relax with their dads by making a Father’s Day card while digging the cool sounds of America’s classic music.

Honor Thy Forefathers

Historic Richmond Town on Staten Island offers its Father’s Day Focus Tour, a look back at the tools and workshops that previous generations of fathers used to earn a living. Some artifacts are hundreds of years old. Dads can also enjoy a tour of the Historic Richmond Town village.

Park It

Prospect Park has several events honoring dads on June 17. At Father’s Day at the Audubon Center, kids can make a card from recycled materials and then head out on a walking tour of the park’s trails and paths. FREE!

Nearby at the Lefferts Historic House, a Father’s Day Sing Along features traditional songs performed by Rory Dineen, followed by a serving of fresh strawberries and cream. FREE!
