Many local organizations are determined to get families outdoors and enjoying nature on Connecticut Trails Day. Take advantage of these activities and walks led by staff naturalists.
Earthplace offers a scavenger hunt and supplies for making trail maps, and teaches compass skills. June 4. 10am-4pm. $7, $5 seniors and children 1-12. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane, Westport, CT.
Staff from the Beardsley Zoo take families on a 2- to 3-mile walk to explore the wildlife and history of the 133-year-old park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. Meet at the zoo ticket booth. June 4 at noon. The nature walk is free. Museum admission is $12; $10 children ages 3-11; free children under 3. Beardsley Zoo, 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.
Help ensure trails at Devil's Den are maintained for years to come. The Nature Conservancy is partnering with Norwalk REI to employ volunteers to help fix up the park's trails. Bring a refillable water bottle and footwear suitable for hiking and trail work. Tools, gloves, extra water, and food provided.
