Educational Activities for Kids in Fairfield County, CT - November 2010

Outside of school, you may find your children opposed to doing anything remotely educational. Luckily, there are plenty of activities designed to entertain while exposing kids to history, science, art, and other subjects often limited to the classroom. Think of it as sneaking spinach into their cupcakes.

Come to the Connecticut Audubon Society Center on election day and vote for your favorite animal at Animal Election. November 2. 11am-1pm. Free but donations of laundry and dishwashing soap appreciated. Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street, Fairfield. 203-259-6305.

Travel outside the earth's atmosphere in Astronomy Nights: History of Space Flight. After the presentation, if the sky is clear, view the night sky through a 22-inch telescope. November 5. 7pm. $3, children $2. The Stamford Museum and Nature Center, 39 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford. 203-322-1646.

Learn about an early form of technology in Super Saturday Workshop: The Art of the Pin Hole Camera. Children make their own cameras and create prints. November 6. 9am-10:15am for ages 5-8; 10:30am-noon for ages 9-12. $30. Westport Arts Center, 51 Riverside Avenue, Westport. 203-222-7070.

Self-guided and staff-led activities at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center give a deeper understanding of the week's topic in Sunday Explorers Drop-In Program. Get up close and personal with historical figures like inventors, artists, scientists, and maybe even a few sports figures at a performance by The Living Museum Company.
