Based on a tale by Jules Verne, Around the World in 80 Days follows the madcap adventures of Phileas Fogg as he attempts to circle the globe, racing across continents and oceans all while dodging storms and detectives.
Bellarmine Museum of Art, Fairfield
Enjoy a family-friendly tour and discussion of the museum’s exhibit featuring works by Colleen Browning, who played a significant role in America’s contemporary realist movement in the years after 1950. Families can also decorate their own cardboard subway car and enjoy a story time and craft activities. FREE!
XL Center, Hartford
Monsters are coming to the XL Center—monster trucks, that is. Eight custom-designed machines weighing a minimum of 10,000 pounds are the stars of Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam. Built for short, high-powered burst of speed, these trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds up to 100 miles per hour. Hold onto your seats as these trucks demonstrate their might, flying up to 35 feet in the air.

There are black cats and fat cats and cats with nine lives, and then there’s Skippyjon Jones. In this live staged production based on the books by Judy Schachner, little Skippyjon dreams of being a bird and a llama and even a whale—anything but a cat. Arrive early for a pre-show fiesta in the lobby.

Everyone’s favorite first-grader comes to the stage in this musical version of Junie B. Jones, the popular book series by Barbara Pack. In this Theatreworks production, Junie B. must deal with plights involving new glasses, sugar cookies, the annual kickball tournament, and other angst-ridden situations. Recommended for children ages 6-11.

This new twist on the classic tale takes place in a French village called Fromagerie-by-the-Sea and follows the adventures of Beauty, who prefers to be called B, as she happens upon a bullying prince whose castle has been put under a magical enchantment. This modern and comical re-telling of the classic story was written and directed by Maria Vee, who also plays the lead role of B.

Kids ages 3-5 can drop by the Bruce Museum to explore the Children’s Book Art exhibit, which runs through Feb. 24, and make their own snow-themed bookmarks in Look and See: Let It Snow.
