Long Island Academy of Fine Arts

The LIAFA Youth Program is designed for serious young students (3rd grade-high school) who want to enhance their technical skills while thinking creatively. Your child will have the opportunity to learn time-honored classical methods and techniques with artists who have MFA or professional training and are experienced youth instructors.  In addition to their artistic excellence, we value our instructors' caring, patience, and ability to break down complex principles into easy-to-grasp concepts.  Weekly classes are available in Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture.

SUMMER CAMP:

During the summer we offer weekly art camps for 3rd-7th graders.  Students may come for one week or the whole summer!  Each day is divided into two sessions: Drawing/Painting, and Explore!  In the morning session (Drawing/Painting), students work on independent projects that expose them to a variety of 2D media, including graphite, oil pastels, charcoal, and paint.  Projects include portraiture, still-life, and master copy.  In the afternoon session (Explore!), students experiment with different art materials that encourage fun and exploration.  They will be exposed to printmaking, classical sculpture, ceramic hand-building, fiber arts, and alternative paint media.

PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT:

LIAFA’s PD program trains students to acquire key observational skills.  For students working towards specific portfolio requirements, we provide one-on-one portfolio review and consultation. Instruction is individualized; students may begin at basic or accelerated levels.  LIAFA students have a high success rate in receiving acceptance and scholarships to their first-choice art colleges.

ABOUT US:

LIAFA, Long Island's oldest classical art school, is dedicated to the understanding and advancement of classical methods.  Founded by Robert Armetta in 1999, the Academy closely adheres to the strict program of study that Armetta experienced during his extensive training in academies in Europe and throughout the United States.  Our primary objective is to train the student's eye to see accurately and sensitively.

BACK TO SCHOOL
At the Long Island Academy of Fine Art, classes in drawing, painting, and sculpture are taught by professional artists and offered to students as young as third grade. Serious academic training is presented step by step, in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere, so concepts are easier to grasp by younger students. Our portfolio-development program trains teens to acquire key observational skills using these time-honored classical techniques. We provide one-on-one portfolio review and consultation for those with specific portfolio requirements. Instruction is individualized; all levels and experience are welcome.
