Broadway from Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle to 68th Street
Manhattan, NY 10019
Description: This huge outdoor neighborhood festival will feature free family fun, children's activities, live entertainment, food tastings, and shopping throughout the Lincoln Square area. The celebration will begin at 5:30pm with a Neighborhood Tree Lighting ceremony at Broadway and 63rd Street.
Kids' Central is located at the American Bible Society on Broadway and 61st Street. Joanie Leeds & Nightlights will be performing their repertoire of "kindie" favorites in two 45-60 minute sets at 6:15pm and 7:15pm. Mayor Ed Koch will read from his new book "Eddie Shapes Up," followed by a book signing meet-and-greet. Also at this location, children and their parents can participate in arts and crafts projects from the West Side YMCA and a take-home seed activity with the New York Society for Ethical Culture, while enjoying free samples of the world-famous Magnolia Bakery cupcakes. At Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle, additional children's activities will include performances by the Big Apple Circus and the Broadway show "Sister Act." Student choruses will be held at Samsung Experience while Arm-of-the-Sea theater puppets, as well as stilt-walkers, jugglers, and dance troupes will delight all on the sidewalks of Lincoln Square. Children can have a professional photo taken with Santa at Brooks Brothers from 5:30-8pm, or greet Santa at Gracious Home at 6pm. Finally, the neighborhood's top restaurants will offer delicious food tastings at a nominal fee, including chocolate bouchons from Bouchon Bakery, black forest cupcakes from Epicerie Boulud, and gingerbread with fresh whipped cream from Soutine Bakery. In the spirit of holiday giving, The New York Cares Coat Drive is this year's Winter's Eve charitable partner; event-goers are encouraged to bring a gently used or new coat to donate at various drop-off locations throughout the district.
