Description: NatureMania was established in the spring of 2008, as a youth-oriented celebration of urban nature. This year's NatureMania theme is "Engage Your Senses." Kids will use their five senses (sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell) to observe, interpret, and engage the world around them. At NatureMania, kids will become especially aware of how important the five senses can be.
While most students view spring break as a time of escape from routine, NatureMania provides a mixture of fun and learning that kick starts the growing season: an escape into a world of wild animals, aquatic nurseries and forests thick with possibility. By the end of the week, participants should find a piece of nature that they didn't know existed in their neighborhood.
As the emergence of spring reenergizes Swindler Cove Park, NatureMania helps welcome the Inwood/Washington Heights community back to their urban landscape. The event's festival format engages participants in various scientific, artistic and cultural activities led by NYRP staff, educators from partner organizations within the NYC Environmental Education (EE) community, community leaders, parents and individuals with talents to share.
Daily schedule and other event details will be provided a few weeks prior to the event. NatureMania is a week-long event, but kids are encouraged to come for however many days they want; you can attend all five days, or choose only one.
Sponsored by the Council of the City of New York and the Office of the Manhattan Borough President.
Please note that no child may be left unattended; a parent or a guardian must remain with their child all day. Also note that you must bring lunch for your child. Light breakfast and snacks will be served.
