New York City has a lot of options when it comes to music and theater programs for kids. Here's a list of music and theater studios that offer classes for kids in Manhattan in neighborhoods like the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Greenwich Village, Midtown, Chelsea, Tribeca, Financial District, and Murray Hill.

THE DILLER-QUAILE SCHOOL OF MUSIC

Since 1920, Diller-Quaile has been developing the innate musicality in each individual, inspiring participation for a lifetime. Diller-Quaile offers early childhood classes, instrument and voice lessons, classes and ensembles, adult programs, and teacher training/Dalcroze Courses. Rug Concerts for young children, master classes, and faculty concerts occur throughout the year. Classes begin Sept. 23 and run through June 9, 2014. Join Greenwich House in the heart of Greenwich Village for loads of fun and creative children’s programming for kids ages 6 mos.-14 years. There’s early childhood enrichment, private and group music, ballet and jazz, basketball, science lab, architecture and design, photography, ceramics, and much more! TAKE FIVE MUSIC WORKSHOP

In five days, students will write and perform their own original songs with their own bands. They will jam with other young musicians and learn new skills on their instruments. Bass, guitar, drums, vocalists, and keyboard players of all levels are welcome. Seasoned musicians and experienced teachers will guide students through all stages of playing and performing. Students will rehearse at Replay Studios, a state-of-the-art rehearsal and recording facility from 12-4pm, Monday-Thursday. Friday afternoon’s performance will be at a club for family and friends.

Third Street Music School, the oldest community music school in the country, has a long history of providing excellent arts instruction. Third Street offers after-school and Saturday instruction (group and individual) in most instruments, voice, theory, composition, ensemble, and performance activities. The School also offers classes in ballet, hip-hop, and tap dance, as well as a range of early childhood arts activities, including a licensed preschool program. The School also provides music instruction to adults of all ages and levels, and presents more than 200 free concerts and recitals every year.

A 4-week summer ensemble day program for teens, ages 14-18, interested in learning the Atlantic Technique, integrates acting classes with rigorous physical training in voice, speech, and movement. Our Summer Young Actors Workshop (ages 12-13) features physical and vocal warm-up, improvisation, and theater games, while engaging kids’ creative abilities through playwriting. We offer two 2-week sessions. Summer Youth and Creators program, for ages 5-9, features classes in acting and storytelling, theater games, creative writing, music, and art. Offered for one or more weeks.
