The NYMetroParents blogroll features the best blogs in the parenting world, from New York and beyond. Here's a closer look at why we love these mom bloggers and dad bloggers and how they're shaping the web for parenting today.

Blogging from: Manhattan, New York

Meet Migdalia Rivera. She’s a 30-something single mother of two boys, she lives in Hell’s Kitchen, and she’s a Latina on a Mission. Rivera, who blogs under the name ‘Ms. Latina,’ is determined to spread the word on how to enjoy everything that New York City has to offer while on a budget. Her cheery blog, with bright pink accents, is all about “life, style, and substance for the modern Latina.”

Raising two kids as a single parent can be tricky, but Ms. Latina’s blog shows that she takes on the job with pride and gumption, and demonstrates that you can, too! She describes her life as “latinalicious,” filled with high-style fashion and great social events. Latina on a Mission presents a great resource for single mothers to learn from an expert on how to live within your means, while still having a fabulous time in the Big Apple.

Latina on a Mission, founded in April 2009, was initially intended to give a voice to Latinas, as Ms. Latina was all too aware that Latina bloggers were and still are a rarity. Ms. Latina has used the blog to record her own life and that of her sons, Karl, 17, and Andrew, 10. Since its conception, the blog has grown to such an extent that it has earned Ms. Latina opportunities to work with a host of bloggers, brands, and PR agencies, as well as invitations to numerous conferences, media events, and interviews in various media outlets, and even an appearance on the Today Show! The blog has also had an incredible impact on Ms. Latina’s sons, both of whom have been inspired by their mom and have become bloggers themselves.

Ms. Latina spices up her blog by throwing in occasional Spanish words (with English translations, of course) that really give one a taste of her “latinalicious” life. Her blog covers a variety of topics including Chic & Cheap, Health, Education, Life, Giveaways (always a treat!), Deals, Entertainment, and Sabroso Saturday (meaning ‘Tasty Saturday,’ where Ms. Latina shares delicious, healthy recipes).

Latina on a Mission is a fantastic read about having fun, staying stylish, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle at a bargain, all while balancing the exciting and difficult challenges that come with raising kids as a single mom in Manhattan.Melanie Shapiro
