Facilities & Programs

The Community Center at Stuyvesant High School (CCSHS) is an affordable and convenient resource for recreation, sports, swimming and education. A partnership of the Battery Park City Authority, the City of New York, the NYC Department of Education and the Battery Park City Parks Conservancy, the Community Center features a beautiful half Olympic-sized swimming pool, a weight and fitness room, two basketball courts, table tennis, badminton, & a dance studio.

Classes offered include: Yoga, Tai Chi, Tennis, Zumba, Swim lessons, Lap & Open Swimming, Red Cross-certified courses such as Lifeguard training, Babysitter training and more!

The Community Center is open to the public evenings and weekends when the school is not in session and has extended hours during summer and school vacation weeks.

With options such as pool and gym only memberships, special rates for youth and senior citizens, and day passes, there is an option for everyone. Teenagers (12 and older) may have their own membership. Members receive discounts on all classes. Become a member and save.

Yoga

Calm the mind, stretch and tone the body. Beginners and all levels are welcome. Instructor Molly Heron has practiced Hatha Yoga for over 25 years and teaches at Integral Yoga Institute in Greenwich Village.

Zumba
Sundays, 3-4pm
10 Classes: March 8 – May 10, 2015
Members: $140.00 / Non-Members: $150.00 / under 18 years: $50.00
Drop-In: $20.00 adults, $10 under 18

Enjoy an easy-to-follow, fun, high-energy, dance-fitness class. No experience necessary. Please wear workout clothes and sneakers. Instructor: Annette Garcia.

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION TRAINING for Teens
Spring Vacation Week: April 6-10, 2015, 4:00pm - 10:00pm


Great job training! Learn to prevent & respond to aquatic emergencies at swimming pools, open water & non-surf waterfront facilities. 40-hour course meets NYS Health Department regulations for lifeguards and includes CPR/AED & first aid skills. 

• Must be at least 15 years old by 4/6/2015. 

• April 6: Successfully complete Skills Test: Swim 300 yrds continuously using 100 yrds of front crawl, 100 yrds of breaststroke & 100 yrds of either front crawl or breaststroke. Swim 20 yrds using front crawl or breaststroke, surface-dive 8 feet, retrieve  10-pound object, return to starting point & exit water using a ladder, within 1 min. & 40 sec.

• Lifeguard Training Manual, resuscitation mask, bathing suit & cap, lock, towel, paper & pen. Manual and mask are available to purchase online at www.shopstaywell.com.

Certifications upon completion

• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (valid for 1 yr) 

• Lifeguard Training (valid for 2 yrs)

• First Aid (valid for 2 yrs)

Students develop their coordination skills and work on refining their groundstrokes. They learn ready position, change of grips and practice on proper preparation for groundstrokes and consistency hitting. In addition, students are introduced to the Forehand and Backhand Volleys and the Serve. Safety procedures and rules are emphasized throughout the class.

BPCPC’s Community Center at Stuyvesant High School offers this class in a gymnasium where the weather is always pleasant. Please note: children need to bring their own racquet. Balls are provided.
