Dwight School

Dwight School, an internationally renowned independent school located in Manhattan, is dedicated to igniting the “spark of genius” in every child. Kindling student interests, and in the vigorous IB tradition, we develop inquisitive, knowledgeable, self-aware, and ethical citizens who will become global leaders.

A Dwight education is unique. No other school cultivates the development of the whole child in quite the same way that Dwight School does. We fit the learning experience to the individual strengths, interests, and passions of every student.

Simultaneously, every student benefits from our School’s three pillars: personalized learning, community, and global vision. A pioneer in global education, Dwight was the first school in the U.S. to offer the comprehensive, rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum for students from ages three to eighteen. The IB is widely known as one of the most challenging and respected pre-university courses of study in the world. Dwight’s longstanding commitment to the principles of the IB and 141-year-old track record of success set the School apart.

Our world-class faculty embodies the dynamic mission of the IB: to create knowledgeable, caring, principled, and open-minded risk-takers equipped with global wisdom to make the world a better place.

Ignite your child’s “spark of genius” from the earliest moments
Small Wonder Program: For children beginning at age one

We provide a wonderful opportunity for infants and toddlers to experience to have their first positive school experience with the participation of a parent or caregiver in a rich and nurturing environment.

Early Childhood Division:  Preschool and Kindergarten

Young Dwight students continually explore inside and outside the classroom. As they’re introduced to the International Baccalaureate’s dynamic Primary Years Program, they learn through play, discovery, and inquiry. Tapping into their growing curiosity, our faculty members take a holistic approach that nurtures the cognitive, physical, and emotional well-being of each child.

Grades 1-12: A Dwight Education Lasts a Lifetime

In our Lower School, faculty strive to awaken a sense of wonder that makes academic learning both significant and a lifelong endeavor. Students learn about themselves and the world around them, while building all-important self-confidence and self-esteem.

The IB inquiry-based curriculum in our Middle School deepens students’ ability to develop and hone their problem-solving skills and become independent thinkers. In our Upper School, students delve even deeper into the academically vigorous IB curriculum and refine their higher-level critical-thinking skills, paving the way for entry to some of the world’s most prestigious colleges and universities.

With rich and extensive offerings in the visual and performing arts; athletics through our new 40,000-square-foot Athletic Center, featuring an indoor pool and rooftop tennis courts; and after-school programs, Dwight students are challenged — and find countless opportunities — to express their “spark of genius.”

One community. Countless stories. And each one is unique.

Whether nurturing a budding artist, a top-ranked athlete, or a brilliant scientist in the making, Dwight School is committed to realizing each student’s full potential based on international standards of excellence and each individual’s “spark of genius.”

Dwight School prepares young men and women to become leaders in the world community through academic rigor, individualized study, and community service.

A Dwight education rests on three pillars

Personalized Learning

Every child is unique, and Dwight’s low 1 to 4 faculty/student ratio — the lowest of all Manhattan private schools — facilitates one-to-one teaching.

Whether nurturing a budding artist, a top-ranked athlete, or a brilliant scientist in the making, Dwight School is dedicated to igniting the “spark of genius” in every child so they can reach their full potential. That may be by connecting a student with an outstanding mentor, designing tailor-made enrichment or opportunities to learn at a higher level, or crafting a special study abroad opportunity; Dwight goes out of its way both inside and outside the classroom to recognize and foster each student’s gifts and talents.

One community. Countless stories. And each one is unique.
Dwight School is a warm and welcoming community where every student is empowered to make a difference. Whether helping a classmate with a math assignment, undertaking community service projects locally, or building a school in a remote African village, Dwight students are encouraged to make a difference and prepared to serve their communities wherever they go.

Global Vision
We encourage students to see challenges from a global perspective. Our students interact with peers and faculty from over 40 countries, follow the rigorous IB curriculum, select from a wide array of foreign languages, and travel abroad for exchanges and service programs, athletic competitions, and student leadership conferences. Dwight New York is the flagship campus and founding member of The Dwight Schools, which includes campuses and programs in London, Beijing, Seoul, and on Vancouver Island, Canada.
