Description: Traditional Cherokee culture is seen through the life of the late noted basket maker, Ella Mae Blackbear. Taped on location at Ella Mae's home in northeastern Oklahoma, the program follows Ella Mae as she gathers native buckrush and native plants for dyes, as she reminisces about learning to weave from her mother, as her agile hands transfer the buckrush strands into a graceful basket. The history of Cherokee basketry is further documented with examples from Tulsa's Philbrook Art Center collection.
