Note: Theodore Roosevelt's Home will remain closed for tours during its ongoing rehabilitation, but the Visitor Center, Theodore Roosevelt Museum, and the park grounds are open.
Venue Description: Follow in Theodore Roosevelt's epic footsteps at Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, home of the 26th President of the United States, from 1885-1919. Visitors can take a guided tour of 23 rooms in the "Summer White House," while learning about the Roosevelt family's dynamic lifestyle. Continue the visit at the Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard, where exhibits and movies bring the past to life. Complete the excursion at the Sagamore Hill Nature Trail, where the Roosevelt family often took trips to swim and camp at Cold Spring Harbor. This half-mile trail loops from the Old Orchard Museum to the Eel Creek salt marsh and the beach, revealing natural gems along the way, like an oak and tulip tree forest. Kids can become a Junior Ranger by completing any one of four free diverse activities. Ask about the programs at the visitor's center as soon as you arrive.
Note: Guided tours of Theodore Roosevelt's house have concluded until the rehabilitation project is complete. Areas to remain open to the public during construction include the visitor center and museum store; the Theodore Roosevelt Museum at Old Orchard; site outbuildings and grounds, along with the nature trail, which leads to the national wildlife refuge on Cold Spring Harbor.
