Disney on Ice: Dare to DreamDisney Dares You...to Dream

Disney on Ice Presents Dare to Dream, in which Disney princesses Cinderella, Rapunzel, and Tiana, along with several other favorite characters, will take to the rink at Nassau Coliseum, November 8-13 (see online schedule for performance times). $28.50 and up.

It's time to give thanks! And while we're at it, let's give back to those who need a helping hand. There are plenty of opportunities if we look around.

Donate turkeys and holiday dry goods to City Harvest during Bethpage Federal Credit Union's 3rd Annual Turkey Drive for needy families. There will be raffles, prizes, and games. November 16. 7am. Old-fashioned wood-burning stoves, beehive ovens, and hearths will be fired up for 1863 Long Island Thanksgiving Holiday Preparations. There will be a variety of foods and baked goods, all from 19th-century recipes. November 19. 11am-3pm. $10; $7 children ages 5-12, seniors 60 and Older, and volunteer firefighters; free children younger than 5. Your homemade floral arrangement will be a Feast for the Eyes on your Thanksgiving table. For ages 6-10. Register early. November 20. 12pm. $8; $5 seniors; $3 children ages 7-17; free children 6 and younger. $10 materials fee for kids. Paper Bag PlayersHa! Ha! Ha! 

Come see The Paper Bag Players in Laugh, Laugh, Laugh, and you and your family will be chuckling through the entire performance. Using original and contemporary material, the troupe's hilarious antics make this a delightful musical theater experience for young children. November 20. 2pm. $18.

Long Island FIRST Robotics CompetitionRobo-Hockey

The New York Islanders have teamed up with School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI), to promote science, engineering, and technology at Family & Friends Night. Together they will showcase robots built by Long Island high school robotics teams that competed in this year's Long Island FIRST Robotics Competition. November 23. 7pm. $15-$50; discounted tickets available at www.sbpli.org. A portion of the proceeds will support SBPLI's robotics programs.

Chinese Theatre WorksPeppy Puppets 

Can you say "Hao Bang Ya?" It means "Great!" or "Well done!" in Chinese, and you'll be saying it a lot as you watch Chinese Theatre Works Presents Hao Bang Ya, Rabbits! The show features a jolly selection of puppet vignettes, many based on popular songs or familiar Chinese expressions. Some parts of the program are performed in Chinese, but they are explained in English. Sing-alongs, audience participation, and hands-on demonstrations make it fun for all audience members, including little ones. November 25. 1pm and 3pm. $4 with $11 museum admission.

Andre RieuSome Enchanted Evening

Waltzing comes naturally during An Evening with Andre Rieu, when Rieu and his 60-piece Johann Strauss Orchestra play works by world-famous composers. Maestro Rieu's performance on his Stradivarius violin creates a celebratory ambience. November 26. 8pm. $44 and up.

Orchard HillHoliday House 

Your older children will appreciate visiting this Designer Showhouse at Orchard Hill. Its charming rooms will be individually decorated by more than 20 of the most talented and creative designers in the New York area. Each room will feature a different holiday motif, from Chanukah to Swedish Christmas to The Nutcracker. On display through December 18. Tuesday-Sunday 10am-4pm. $25. Children younger than 12 not permitted.
