New York City is comprised of five boroughs, and some of the finest museums are in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. The Brooklyn Museum, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Queens Museum of the Arts, and Historic Richmond Town are just a few of the places to visit outside of Manhattan. Whether you're a native New Yorker or here on vacation, these museums have something new and interesting to offer everybody! Here is a list of what's going on this week at museums throughout NYC?s boroughs.

Catapult Month: Pumpkin Chucking - New York Hall of Science
October 31, 2009 - Flushing

Kids learn about the history and science behind catapults. Watch it hurl things hundreds of feet. Enjoy weekend demos, sing up for a family workshop, experiment with a digital catapult or bring a Halloween pumpkin to get tossed.

Catapult Month: Catapult Expert David Crismond; Science Technology Library - New York Hall of Science

Kids learn about the history and science behind catapults from Dr. David Crismond, professor of science education at the City College of NY. Watch film clips, model examples and talk about catapults.

Catapult Month: Digital Catapults - New York Hall of Science
October 31, 2009 - Flushing

Kids visit JP Morgan Connections Lab and test their ability to design catapults to hit a target. They'll draw and test solutions on an interactive whiteboard to catapult puzzles designed by staff.

Catapult Month: Catapult Family Workshop - New York Hall of Science
October 31, 2009 - Flushing

Families build a table-top catapult. They'll learn about the science behind catapults with hands-on activities; test their own catapult; and see the Hall's large outdoor catapult up close. Pre-registration required. Call 718-699-0005, ext .348.

Transformers: The Art of Assemblage - Westchester Community College Fine Arts Gallery
Through November 22, 2009 - Valhalla

The exhibition includes works by three artists from the Northeast region; Natasha Cohen, Shiela Hale, and Lucy Krupenye.

Science Playground - New York Hall of Science
Through November 30, 2009 - Flushing

Through dozens of playground elements including slides and seesaws, people of all ages and abilities explore the scientific principles of motion, balance, sound, sight and simple machines, as well as sun, wind and water in this 60,000 square-foot-playground.

Rocket Park Mini Golf - New York Hall of Science
Through December 01, 2009 - Flushing

The nine-hole course provides opportunities for families to encounter and explore fundamental laws of physics as they take careful aim to avoid gravity wells, warm holes, warped space and asteroids in attempt to beat Par. Through December 1.

New Amsterdam: The Island at the Center of the World - South Street Seaport Museum
Through January 07, 2010 - Manhattan

An exhibit that features dozens of rare historic maps, paintings, drawings and documents relating to the history of early New York.

Tibetan Portrait exhibit - Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art
Through December 05, 2010 - Staten Island

Photographic portraits of Tibetan people by renowned contemporary artist Phil Borges are featured. Families can view interactive displays focusing on aspects of traditional Tibetan culture, including a map of Tibet’s changing borders, a moveable display of Himalayan Mountains, audio recordings of mantra chanting, and a hands-on display of Tibetan prayer wheels.
