Description: New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute's Child and Adolescent Psychoanalysis division launches the "Dialogues on..." series of discussions with leading child development experts. With the "Dialogues on..." series of discussions and Q&A, the NYC community has access to child development experts on relevant and pressing topics. The events are free and open to the public and are an integral part of NYPSI's commitment to community outreach. "Dialogues on..." events are geared towards professionals and parents who are involved with the care of children in the school and home environments. Educators, school administrators, community leaders, grandparents, and parents are welcome to attend. The "Dialogues on..." series is made possible by a generous donation to NYSPI from The Poses Family Foundation. Additional funding was received from The James and Judith K. Dimon Foundation in honor of Ms. Themis Dimon. Dr. Anna Balas is currently Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Payne Whitney Division of New York Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College. She is also on the faculty of, and a member of New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. Dr. Balas is a sought after instructor on trauma and child development for psychoanalytic candidates, residents, public/private school teachers, and parents. In addition, Dr. Balas has a longstanding interest in psychoanalysis as applied to the arts. Dr. Balas has a busy private practice for adult, adolescent and child psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Manhattan. Given the prevalence of separation and divorce, Dr. Balas has pondered at length on finding ways to help children master their experiences of loss when their own family divides up.
