Earth Day Family Volunteer Project - Stamford Museum and Nature Center
39 Scofieldtown Road - 203-322-1646
Stamford, CT 06903
Description: In honor of Earth Day, join the center for a "garlic mustard pull." Garlic mustard was introduced in North America in the 1860's as a culinary herb. Today, it is an invasive species in much of Connecticut. Left unchecked, it has the potential to become the dominant plant in the undergrowth of forests, greatly reducing the diversity of all species. The garlic mustard leaves harvested during this Earth Day activity will be offered to local food banks to help feed the hungry. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the event. This family volunteer project is open to volunteers ages 11 and older. (Ages 11 - 14 must be accompanied by an adult.) Adult team captains desired. Advance registration is required. Please contact Cathryn Oulighan at 203-977-6530.
