Description: To headline this evening's performance, Jazz at Lincoln Center convenes a cooperative all-star quartet representing three generations, including 2012 NEA Jazz Master Jack DeJohnette on drums, serial poll-winner Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone, 2011 "Best New Artist" Grammy Award winner Esperanza Spalding on bass, and Argentinean pianist Leo Genovese. They will undoubtedly fulfill DeJohnette's stated dictum of being "open, prepared for the unexpected, and willing to follow that where it takes us and coming up with music that's different and also makes sense and communicates." Opening the proceedings is the 23-year-old Mack Avenue recording artist Cecile McLorin Salvant, whose timeless conception of jazz and blues expression spans Bert Williams, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, and Abbey Lincoln -- styles she refracts in her own argot.
