Description: The Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter Junior Committee is inviting New York City’s civic-minded young professionals, activists, philanthropists and other supporters to its annual Collective Consciousness gala on Wednesday, September 21, 2011— Alzheimer’s Action Day — from 8:00 p.m. -11:00 p.m. at The Park on Manhattan’s West Side. This annual fundraiser will feature fabulous cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, music by DJ Journey, dancing, and a silent auction. Meredith Viera, renowned journalist and television personality, will serve as this year’s emcee. Also in attendance as an honorary guest will be Alex McCord, star of The Real Housewives of New York City. Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurological disorder that severely diminishes a person's memory, ability to reason and, ultimately, the ability to function. Every 69 seconds someone in America develops Alzheimer’s. The event’s proceeds will help the Chapter serve the more than 250,000 people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s that live in the five boroughs of New York City, their family members and caregivers, in addition to providing vital funds for research. Auction items include tickets to see Jimmy Fallon; a David Yurman color classics cable bracelet; Dover Race NASCAR tickets; and a behind-the-scenes tours of ESPN, including photo ops with “Mike and Mike” and the hosts of “SportsNation.” Tickets are $125 per person and $225 per couple, and are tax deductible after $60. Each ticket includes access to the Penthouse after-party, which will take place in the Penthouse at The Park at 11:00 p.m. There will be a cash bar at the after-party. A portion of the cash bar proceeds will be donated to the Junior Committee. To purchase tickets, visit alznyc.org/ssl/jrcom/collectiveconsciousness/ or call Chelsea DeMarrais at 646-744-2967. The Junior Committee of the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter is dedicated to raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias to a generation who may not be as familiar with the statistics and devastating effects of the disease. This is accomplished through events, education and support to further the efforts of the New York City Chapter. Committee members include young professional in their 20s and 30s.
