Description: Kids will have a chance to get "up close and personal" with NYC-based musician/educator Meredith LeVande at a pre-Valentine's Day show. A portion of proceeds will benefit Children of Promise, NYC. LeVande will play plenty of old favorites, plus songs from the new CD "What Are the Odds?" Kids and their adults should be ready to 'Jump High,' play 'Air Guitar,' and 'Shake it Loud.' They'll use instruments, pop bubbles, groove with fruits and vegetables 'In The Garden,' count the odds, and do the Macaroni Dance. In celebration of Valentine's Day, LeVande will talk with kids about people in their lives that they love. Because Monkey Monkey Music's drummer is Russian and the bass player is Japanese, Meredith and the band will teach everyone how to say "I love you" in both Russian and Japanese. LeVande will also have special Valentine's Day cards and goodies for all the children after the show. LeVande will donate 50 percent of her share of the proceeds from the show to Children of Promise, NYC. Children of Promise serves children who suffer deep social and economic inequities because their parents are incarcerated. More than two million children in the United States experience the detrimental economic, social, and emotional effects of a parent's incarceration. In New York state alone, there are more than 105,000 children whose parents are incarcerated. By providing intense academic and social services to these children, Children of Promise not only breaks the cycle of intergenerational involvement in crime, but helps children who are otherwise socially invisible to live to their fullest potential. Monkey Monkey Music began in 2001, when educator/songwriter Meredith LeVande - acting on her perception that music engaged the whole child - began writing and performing songs that supported children's natural curiosity and desire to learn. LeVande holds undergraduate degrees in Women's Studies and English, a master's degree in music, and a law degree. LeVande draws from all these disciplines for her multi-faceted work with children in live performances, recordings, and music videos.
