Picks for You

Have a tween or teen at home? Surprisingly, some of the traits parents often complain about—argumentative, messy, boy crazy, and lazy—can actually benefit kids. Those classic negative tween behaviors can help your children in the future. Understanding the behavior can help you relate to your adolescent; feelings like anger manifest themselves different in kids and tweens than in adults. If your arguments are full of back-talk, learn how to handle your child's bad language. And remember to frame your interactions positively: standing up to you serves as practice for your child to stand up for his or her beliefs down the road.
