Description: The Noguchi Museum's Artist-in-Residence Weekends, organized in conjunction with the exhibition Hammer, Chisel, Drill: Noguchi's Studio Practice, continue in March with demonstrations and an artist talk by Ayami Aoyama. Master stone carver and native of Japan, Ms. Aoyama will demonstrate specific techniques for splitting stone as she uses a variety of hand tools to create an original stone sculpture. Ms. Aoyama has collaborated with many contemporary artists! to create stone sculpture, utilizing both advanced technologies and t raditional techniques. She will focus on how traditional Japanese stone-carving techniques, in particular, had a profound influence on the essence of Noguchi's stone sculpture.
